In my time as an Astrologer, I have observed the effect that the Moon has on a
daily basis in our lives. It gives a day its colour. In this blog, I share my experiences of the Moon and explain how it may be affecting you. I also share my experience of the Sun and other planetary movements in the sky. To find out what it all means, join me on a daily basis. If you're on facebook or twitter, you can let me know how your day is going too by clicking on the appropriate buttons above. I'd love to hear from you.

The Moon is still in Pisces and Piscean themes have been plenty in the media today. I haven't listened to midweek on Radio 4, for ages as I usually see clients at this time, but today I tuned in. The first guest was a magician (Pisces is the sign we associate with magic, illusion and disillusion); the second guest was writer and thatre director whose plays are meant to give a voice to the dispossessed (Pisces is the sign of the oppressed). Then as the day went on, on two different radio stations the topic was alcoholism (another Piscean link). Great examples of synchronicity.
Today the Moon is very close to Mercury. This is a day when you are likely to be able to share your feelings and find understanding.
You are likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Scorpio, Cancerian, Capricorn or Taurus.
If you're a Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius or Gemini, the day may have a very different flavour. As you try to communicate your feelings, anger and frustration may be the result. The person you're talking to may be focusing only on practicalities and fail to understand the feelings involved. Alternatively, it may be you, who are focusing on practicalities and finding it difficult to deal with someone else's feelings. Perhaps it might be better to wait a day and then look at the situation with a fresh eye.
21/02/12
Although the Moon is still in Aquarius, it will go into Pisces at around 5:30 this evening. Even before it does, there is already a dreamy quality to the day. It's very close, and getting closer to the Sun in Pisces as we approach the New Moon and it's also getting closer to Neptune and Chiron. All of this means that there is a lot of Piscean energy around.
Yesterday when writing about the Sun in Pisces, I mentioned that there was suddenly a lot of talk about the role of religion in the media. A couple of hours later, in the car on the way to the Astrological Lodge of London, the topic on LBC was whether religion should be taught in schools.
My hope is that all of this Piscean energy will remind us of the greatest of Piscean gifts- tolerance. In fact the mood today is one of easy going and healing energy. This is a day when random acts of kindness could prevail- whether you're the one whose on the giving or the receiving side. Today's idealistic mood can bring healing and remind us of unconditional love for all.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're an Aquarian, Gemini, Libra, Aries or Sagittarius. This evening you're most likely to benefit if you're a Pisces, Scorpio. Cancerian, Capricorn and Taurus.
20/02/12
The Moon is in Aquarius in a positive link with Venus. This is a very social combination. Aquarius is a sign we associate with groups, friends and networking. As it's in a link with social Venus, today is a great day for social functions. This is just as well as I'm going to be at the Astrological Lodge of London this evening.
http://www.astrolodge.co.uk/
You may find that you are in the mood to be with friends. It's also possible that you'll find others are especially helpful today or that you are in the mood to do others a good turn.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're an Aquarius, Libra or Gemini. You can also benefit if you're a Sagittarius or an Aries.
The Sun is now in Pisces. This is a dreamy time. While the Sun is in this sign, the focus is on mysticism, music and creativity. Since it went into Pisces, I've heard several news stories all about the way in which militant atheists are being challenged. Their campaign in the last few years to erase all traces of religion from public society is being challenged by many. With Neptune now also in Pisces, matters of belief will be ever more present in the news.
Pisces is also associated with alcohol and it's interesting that tonight on Panorama the subject will be alcohol. Increasingly this subject is coming up amongst my hypnotherapy clients. None of them are alcoholics, but those who mention it are aware of having too much in the hope of numbing pain. Pisces is about sacrifice and this Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. In the Christian calendar, it is the beginning of Lent. Traditionally, we are asked to give up something in this period. Perhaps this year, it might be worth thinking about they way in which you are using alcohol. If it's becoming a crutch, it's time to think hard about what you're doing.
You benefit most from Piscean energy if you're a Pisces, Scorpio or Cancerian. Capricorns and Taureans can enjoy this too.
You may find this energy challenging if you're a Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius.
18/02/12
The Moon is still in Capricorn and today it's in a very positive link with Mars. Once again this is a good day to get things done. In fact it's a great day to start a new project, so make the most of this great energy and get cracking. If you're in a quieter mood, then making plans may be the next best thing.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Capricorn, Taurus or Virgo. You will also benefit if you're a Pisces or Scorpio.
17/02/12
Today the Moon is in Capricorn. It's very close to Pluto and in a positive link with Mercury and Jupiter. It's a good day to get things done. You are likely to feel determined and very positive about starting something new or simply moving things forward.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Capricorn, Taurus or Virgo. Scorpios and Pisceans are likely to benefit too.
For others the day may not be so straight forward or productive. The Moon is in a tense link with Venus and Uranus. You may feel that you need to shake things up in your relationship or may be surprised by your partner in some way. Remember that change can keep things fresh and stimulate growth in relationships.
Another possibility is that you are feeling bored and in need of some excitement and find that you're on your own. Whatever the circumstances, this is an evening when doing something unusual could really lift your mood.
You're most sensitive to this energy if you're a Cancerian, Libra or Aries.
16/02/12
Mercury has now been in Pisces for a few days. During its stay in this dreamy sign, you may find your mind turning to fantasy or perhaps just a greater propensity towards daydreaming. Your imagination may be more fertile than usual during this period and the best way of communicating may be through nonverbal means. You may be more sensitive to music during this period or harbour a desire for dance. It's also possible that your intuition is especially strong now or that you feel the need to develop psychicly.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Pisces, Cancerian or Scorpio. Taureans and Capricorns are also likely to benefit.
There is, however, another side to this placing. This can also be a time of confusion. You may find it difficult to tell what's real and what's not. Is someone lying or being straight. Should you be telling the truth or white lies. The potential for misunderstandings during this period is high.
You are most likely to experience confusion if you're a Pisces, Gemini, Virgo or Sagittarius.
15/02/12
This posting is overdue. Venus went into Aries while I was away last week. The lady is in the mood for a challenge. When in Aries, Venus wants to be active. You may find that you're in the mood for doing more physical activity than usual. Actually if you were born in the first week of Aries, you may even find love while your jogging or at the gym. How is that for a good reason to get fit! Seriously though, this is a good time to challenge yourself. It may not be to climb a mountain to to do something that tests your strnegth and stamina. You may be pleasantly surprised. Aries and conflict can go together and when Venus the godess of love is in Aries, you may find that your relationships produce more fireworks than usual. This can of course be a good thing as long as your remember to make up!
You are more sensitive to this energy if you're an Aries, Leo or Sagittarius.
If you're a Capricorn, Cancerian or Libra you might think that you're in the mood to do something challenging or to step up the tempo of your social life; but take care, you may not have the energy to keep up at the moment.
Today the Moon is in Sagittarius in a difficult link with Mercury but in a positive link with Venus and Uranus. This means that this is not a great day for communication. You may find that actions speak louder than words. Rather than talking about doing something, you may be better off doing it. This is especially true if what you want to do involves your partner, friends or groups. Enjoy!
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Sagittarius, Aries or Leo.
Miscommunication is most likely if you're a Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo or Pisces.
14/02/12
Today is Valentine's Day. The Moon is in the sexy sign of Scorpio and in a positive link with Mars. If you're planning a Valentine's treat- make it passionate! You're most likely to benefit from this exciting energy if you're a Pisces, Cancerian, Capricorn or Virgo. If you're a Scorpio, this could be for you too although for you, the picture is a little more complicated. This is because the Sun and Moon are in a tense position in relation to each other. This means that today could be quite a tense day. If you're a Scorpio, what you want may not necessarily match what everyone else wants too. Before making plans, it might be worth discussing them with your partner. This also applies if you're an Aquarius.
If you're a Taurus or a Leo, you may find that you have other pressing concerns on your mind and that romance is just not possible. As a Taurus, with a very lousy cold, this is certainly true of me! If this is the case, perhaps you're looking in the wrong places for romance this year. For my part, being served breakfast in bed this morning when I'm feeling so rotten, beats a candle lit dinner, a dozen long stemmed roses and any Valentine card you'd care to find!
13/02/12
The Moon is now in Scorpio. It's Opposite Jupiter and in positive links with Pluto and Chiron. Today may be all about healing hurts. You may feel emotional, if so the root of it may be something that's been bothering you for some time and needs attention. Today is a good day to deal with it and Pluto invites honesty and integrity and Chiron bring healing.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Scorpio, Pisces or Cancerian. If you're a Capricorn or Virgo, this could be helpful to you too.
On the other hand if you're a Taurus, Leo or Aquarius, the emotionality of this energy may be challenging for you. If so, give yourself as gentle a day as possible and if there's someone who you can talk to, all the better.
12/02/12
It's been a week since I last wrote as I was furthering my Hypnotherapy training. 6 nine hour days, left me feeling shattered every evening without much to say about anything! Today I've been working with clients and gathering my thoughts. It's a pleasant day as the Moon is in Libra, in a positive link with the Sun, Mercury and Neptune. This is a good day to send with your partner and there may even be a touch of romance in the air... perhaps an early Valentine dinner? It's certainly a time when communication in relationships can flow more easily and with empathy- always a good thing.
The Moon is also approaching Saturn which means that the nature of some conversations will be serious but constructive. It's a good time to state goals and commit to them.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Libra, Aquarius or Gemini.
3/02/12
The Moon has been in Gemini for a couple of days now, but today has a very different feel to yesterday. It is in a tense link with Venus and Mars. This means that the opposite sex may be a little annoying for you today. It's also possible that your partner may be irritating you. It may be nothing very big, but its roots might run a little deeper. Perhaps the real issue is a lack of affection or feeling taken for granted. If so, acknowledge this and use the Gemini energy to talk it out. Ending with a cuddle... or something a little more passionate would be ideal!
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're a Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces or Virgo.
On the other hand, the Moon is also in a positive link with Saturn and Neptune. This means that you may find that you have constructive conversations today. It's also a good day to resolve emotional issues or to free up your imagination. This is very useful if you're someone who works intuitively or creatively.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Gemini, Libra or Aquarius
1/02/12
The Moon is in the last degrees of Taurus and in a tense link with Neptune- escape is the word wanted here. If you're a Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius or Leo, reality is the last thing you want to be dealing with tonight- candles, baths, romantic dinners, music or soppy films are just what you may be needing tonight. If you feel tempted to escape by other means, remember that you may just be intensifying the feelings you'd rather escape from. Take the more gentle and healthy route and you'll feel all the better for it.
31/01/12
Today the Moon is in Taurus in a positive link with Mars and in a tense link with the Sun. This means that it's a mixed bag king of day. On the one hand if you're a Capricorn or Virgo, you may find that everything is moving along nicely. You have energy and determination to get things done.
If you're a Taurus, Aquarius, Scorpio or Leo, you may be feeling a bit fed up. Somehow your inner needs aren't being met or you're having to do things, you'd rather avoid. As a result you may be feeling a little grumpy or stressed. There is a remedy- make this evening free of obligations and look after yourself. Tonight a little pampering is just what you need!
29/01/12
Mercury entered the sign of Aquarius about three days ago. Mercury is the planet linked with Communication and ideas. While in the sign of Aquarius the mind turns to friends, groups and associations. It may also be focused on larger issues of a global nature. The day Mercury entered Aquarius, I was contacted my a client wanting to know how best to communicate a message about issues surrounding Animal Welfare. She wanted to know whether there was a way to make her message more effective. She was wondering whether humannity as a whole would ever become more compassionate in its treatment of farm animals. This is a good example of the type of subject that may be occupying your mind. How do we make this world a better place?
Progress also comes in the form of technology and science. While Mercury is in Aquarius, you may find that you're more involved with technology or that you're hearing more about advances in Science and Technology.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're an Aquarius, Gemini or Libra.
You may also find that if you're a Leo, Taurus or Scorpio this is a stressful period. It may be that you're vision of the ideal world is very far from what you're seeing and it gets you down. Alternatively, you may find communication awkward or difficult at this time. If so, it may be that you're message is being resisted or that you're resisting what someone else is trying to tell you. Either way, listening and being open to different points of view will be helpful during this period.
28/01/12
The Moon is still in Aries but today it has been in a tense link with Pluto. This may feel like a bit of a pressure cooker. If there are feelings that you're trying to hold back, it may be difficult to do that today. If you do feel like the tension is unbearable, it may be that it all needs to come out so that peace can reign again. Sometimes the truth needs to come out. If you're concerned that it might be too destructive, talk about whatever is troubling you with someone who is objective, develop a strategy and then talk directly to the person who is troubling you. This way, you're not repressing your feelings but you're not erupting either.
You're most sensitive to this energy if you're an Aries, Libra, Capricorn or Cancerian.
27/01/12
Tonight's mood is very different from yesterday's. The Moon is now in the energetic sign of Aries. The key word is action and because it is very close to Uranus, another key word is stimulation. Tonight is not the night to be bored. Visit friends or do something stimulating. Tonight is also a night where it's best to not be on your own. Uranus invites time spent with others.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're an Aries, Leo or Sagittarius. You will also benefit from it if you're an Aquarius or Gemini.
There is one thing to watch and that's your temper. This is a volatile and impatient combination which means that you may be easily frustrated if the tempo isn't fast enough or if others are getting in the way.
This is most likely if you're an Aries, Capricorn, Libra or Cancerian.
26/01/12
The Moon is still in Pisces and today it's very close to Venus. Once again this can be a gentle day in which friendship and love play a large role. You may find that you're being especially helpful to others or that you are receiving help instead. It's also a good day for doing anything that is soothing be it listening to music or lying in the bath. Enjoy because as the day progresses the Moon will get closer to Opposing Mars. The mood will be very different then.
You are most likely to benefit from today's gentle energy if you're a Pisces, Scorpio or Cancerian. If you're a Capricorn or Taurus, you too will be open to this pleasant state.
25/01/12
Today the Moon is in Pisces in close links with Neptune and Chiron. It's also in a positive link with Saturn and Jupiter. There is a dreamy quality to Pisces and you may be more in the mood for a film than work. Build in some time to meditate or simply stare out the window. It is time to refresh the soul.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're a Pisces, Cancerian or Scorpio.
If you're a Taurus or Capricorn, you too will benefit from this healing energy, especially if you build in some opportunities for fun after all duties are attended to today.
24/01/12
Yesterday we had a New Moon in Aquarius. Aquarius is a sign associated with change but it's also associated with friends and with groups. The themes that I wrote about when describing the Sun's entry into Aquarius apply. If you're a Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius, you may be in a rebellious mood this month. For Aquarians, you may be the one who is pushing change forwards. For the other fixed signs, you may be resisting change that's necessary.
Whatever your sign, you need to remember that change doesn't always feel like progress, but it may be necessary to liberate you from ideals, beliefs or circumstances which although safe, are holding you back. This month, may be a month about letting go of the past and embracing the New.
If you're a Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius or Aries, the prospect of change is likely to be more welcome. Perhaps a radical spring clean is coming early this year.
22/01/12
The Sun entered the sign of Aquarius a couple of days ago. The mood of the month is progressive. New ideas, new technology and change. The year is still young enough for many of us to be thinking about how to change our lives. While the Sun is in Aquarius, the odds of putting those plans dreamed up in Capricorn into place, are high. There is hope in the air too. By early February we are half way to spring, some of the earlier daffodils are coming into bloom and although winter is still very much with us, we are conscious that spring is just around the corner.
If you're an Aquarius, Gemini, or Libra, this is also a good time to join a new group or simply expand your social circle. With Aquarius, the emphasis is on networking and belonging. If you're a Sagittarius or Aries, you too will benefit from this energy.
Although change can be as good as a rest, not all change is easy and Aquarius is also a sign associated with disruption and revolution. If you're a Taurus, Leo or Scorpio, it's likely that this isn't your favourite time of year. You may feel quite low and even insecure as though, the world seems unpredictable. If you are feeling disrupted during this period, it might be worth looking on the positive side of changes that are either happenning or looming. It may not be as bad as you think and there may be some positives to be gained. If you are a Cancerian or Virgo, you too may find this period challenging.
21/01/12
Well, I've been away for a little while and there have been a few Astrological changes in my absence. First Venus entered the sign of Pisces. She is now at her most idealistic and romantic. You may find that you are in the mood not just for romance but for dancing, music and stories in the form of film or books. You may be using your camera more often. In fact thinking about it, photography has been in the news the last few days due to Kodak's financial woes. There has been a great deal of nostalgia expressed about old cameras, the joy of photo albums and holding a picture, rather than quickly scanning photos on the computer screen.
When Venus is in Pisces, she is in love with anything mystical and divine. So this month, you may find your mind is on the mystical side of life a little more than usual.
Venus is about relationships and in Pisces, romance and idealism are the key words. This means that you may be prone to look at someone through rose tinted spectacles. You may also experience a little confusion as to whether your judgement is clouded or clear. If you're in a relationship that is solid, this could be a great time to inject a little romance and glamour into your life. Planning the perfect Vanlentine's day or weekend getaway could be just the thing.
If you're a Pisces, Scorpio or Cancerian you are most likely to experience this period as a gentle and inspired time. Capricorns and Taureans are also pleasantly sensitive to this energy.
If you're a Virgo, Gemini or Sagittarius, you may be more prone to getting confused about others' motives during this time. If in doubt, talk things through with someone who can be objective and hold a lamp for you in the fog.
More on other changes, tomorrow.
12/01/12
The Moon is now in Virgo and in a positive link with Mercury, Jupiter and Pluto. This means that it's a good day for communication and getting things done. For my part, I started the day with a surprise skype call from my dad. It's not unusual for us to talk, but due to the fact that we are on different continents and that big time difference, it is unusual to start the day with a chat with him, as he's usually in bed. So I've already had my first manifestation of the positive link between the Moon and Mercury, the planet of communication.
Virgo is a sign of organisation and getting things done. I'm also going to be away for a few days which means that I've had to be even more organised than usual and mountains have been shifted in my attempts to prepare to leave. The positive links with Jupiter and Pluto lend energy and determination to the day.
You are most likely to benefit from these positive links if you're a Virgo, Capricorn or Taurus.
However, if you're a Virgo, your day may not be as straightforward as that of your fellow Earth signs. This is because The Moon is Opposite Neptune, Chiron and Venus. It may be that you've been confused by someone sending you mixed messages in the last couple of days. This could be a friend or a partner. It may be touching on an old wound. Rather than just reacting, it's worth considering why you feel the way you're feeling before talking things through. This will help heal the hurt at a much deeper level.
You are also sensitive to these oppositions if you're a Pisces, Gemini or Sagittarius.
10/01/12
The Moon is now in Leo. Although technically no longer full, it's energy is still powerful and if you're a Taurus, Scorpio or Aquarius, this may not be your favourite day. You may be experienceing an energy drain and staying home may have been a tempting thought today. Alternatively, you may just be feeling stressed.
There is a nice link with Uranus today. Combined with the sign of Leo, if you're a Fire sign, (Leo, Sagittarius, Aries) you may be in the mood for fun or creativity. It's also a good day to do something unusual with friends. There's still time to do something spontanious and fun this evening!
9/01/12
Today is the Full Moon. In fact it peaked this morning in the sign of Cancer. As ever, a Full Moon indicates a time when feelings are running high. This one is in a positive link with Mars. This suggests that it may be a time to move forward and get things done. Nevertheless, the usual advice for emotionally tense times, still holds. Action is best taken when you feel calmer.
You are especially sensitive to this Full Moon if you're a Capricorn, Cancerian, Aries or Libra.
3/01/12
It's been a peaceful day for many of us. The Moon is in Taurus and in a positive link with the Sun and Pluto. Taurus is about resources. You may have been thinking of the resources available to you, financial or your own inner resources. The positive links with the Sun and Pluto indicate that if you dig deep and are prepared to be disciplined, whatever you need achieve is within your power.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Taurus, Capricorn or Virgo
2/01/12
Today was one of those days where there was so much to do and so little time to do it in. Added to this was a desire to do very little! The key became prioritising. This is always the way when Saturn plays a part in the day. Today the Moon has been opposite Saturn. Frustration was replaced with pleasure once I decided to scale down and simplify my plans.
You are most sensitive to today's energy if you're an Aries, Libra, Capricorn or Cancerian.
This evening the mood is about to change as the Moon goes into Taurus and approaches Jupiter. Optimism and indulgence will begin to replace Saturn's caution. You can see this beautiful link between the Moon and Jupiter. Look for the Moon and what appears to be a bright star next to it, is Jupiter. They will be getting ever closer together as the night wears on. Enjoy!
1/01/12
It's always a funny feeling writing the New Year's date for the first time- it's so very new! In Astrology we deal with cycles. Our cycles are related to the planets and the Earth's movement around the Sun. The seasons are also pare of the annual cycle. The New Year is a cycle based on a calendar rather than a natural occurence. For many this reduces its importance but actually seen in the context of the Winter Solstice and the Christian tradition of Christmas, it makes greater sense. The Solstice brings us the beginning of deep Winter and in ancient times, this indicated the start of the New Year. Now our calendar brings us that date roughly two weeks later.
So it is that just as we head into deep Winter we are looking ahead and planning the New Year. This is absolutely the right time to do this. As a gardener, this is the time of year when I plan what will be grown in spring and summer. It's also a time when seeds are sown. In this spirit, we take stock and consider our successes of the past year and changes that we'd like to implement in our lives.
With today's Moon in Aries, the sign most associated with Spring and new beginnings, you might want to spend some time considering how to turn over a new leaf. The positive link between the Moon and Venus today means that it's a good time to think about bringing warmth into your life. You might want to consider your friendships and relationships. These are what makes life rich. So this evening, if you're on your own, call a friend. If you feel that you haven't many friends, make a positive move and do an evening class or join a club. Make this the year in which love and warmth are the centre of your life.
If you're an Aries, Leo or Sagittarius, you are most sensitive to this energy. You are also likely to benefit from it if you're an Aquarius or Gemini.
Whatever your sign- Happy New Year!
31/12/11
For many people New Year's Eve is a time for celebration. The mix of
alcohol and mass hopes and dreams attached to this night of the year,
makes for an emotional cocktail. Walk around any street around midnight
and you are bound to see people hugging, often barely able to stand and
in the middle of the general euphoria, there's always someone crying.
This scene will be played out all around the country and will be
familiar in many parts of the world.
Tonight is unlikely to be an exception. The Moon is in Aries, a Fire
Sign. This means that emotions are running high- anger and impatience
coming easily to the surface. Add to this the fact that the Moon is very
close to Uranu,s and you may be in for some surprises. People may
behave unpredicatably around you. This combination of the Moon and
Uranus are also in a tense link with Pluto. To unpredictability, we can
add intense emotions. This is hardly the ideal set up for a party night.
It is a good night to be with friends and it is also a good night to be
doing something different. But if you find that moods are getting too
intense and that conflict is in the air, take a step back. Chances are
that things will look better in the morning. New mornings are always a
fresh start and this one has the added honour of carrying the beginning
of a year.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're an Aries, Libra, Capricorn or Cancerian.
Whatever you are doing this evening, keep it light and have fun! Happy New Year!
30/12/11
Today's mood is very different to yesterday's. The Moon is still in Pisces but it's opposite Mars and in a tense link with Mercury. You may feel frustrated and misunderstood. The potential for arguments is also high. If you are feeling angry, it might be better to try to resolve the issue when both parties have calmed down, otherwise the chance for conflict is heightened. It might also be worth checking all the facts before drawing conclusions. Pisces is a sign associated with confusion and misunderstandings. If you find that the day's stresses are too great, a nice bath or a film may be just what's needed.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're a Pisces, Virgo, Gemini or Sagittarius.
29/12/11
Today the Moon is in Pisces, very close to Chiron and in a positive link with the Sun and Pluto. This is a great day for dreaming and healing. If you've been feeling a little low on energy, today's energy is about giving yourself the space to rest and heal. Curling up on the sofa could be just what you need. The links with Chiron and Pluto could also indicate that a heart to hear with a friend or family member bring you the inspiration or healing that you need.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Pisces, Scorpio or Cancerian. This energy is also friendly to Capricorns and Taureans.
26/12/11
The Moon has just entered Aquarius and is very close to Venus. Just after the sun set,, you could see the very young Moon; a beautiful little slither and next to it, what looked like the most beautiful of stars. This was Venus. One of my students asked me today, how we know when the Moon is setting. So here is a little lesson in Astronomy. The Moon rises in the East and sets in the West. All planets, just like the Sun and Moon also do this, as do constellations. As for timing, it all depends on where the Moon is in its cycle. At the moment, it's only one sign away from the Sun. This means that it's not far from the Sun. Consequently, shortly after Sun set, you will be able to see it in the West, until it too disappears below the Horizon.
As the Moon is so close to Venus in Aquarius, tonight is the perfect night to spend with friends. It's a warm and friendly connection. The fact that they are in a tense link with Jupiter means that people may get carried away. Being Boxing Day, it's not hard to imagine how that would be! This is all in a nice link with Uranus so there could be some pleasant surprises. This makes a nice change from the heavy energy we've been experiencing through a tense link with Saturn.
You're most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Gemini or a Libra. If you're an Aquarius, Taurus, Scorpio or Leo take care that you don't get carried away. You may regret it when you next step on the scales!
24/12/11
Having lost a week due to a very bad cold last week, this week has been about catching up. I've been rushing around at twice the normal speed, something I didn't think was possible as only last weekend I had very little energy. Happily, I was still able to mark and enjoy the Solstice.
For those of us in tune with nature, the Winter Solstice marks the turning of the Year. The days are now getting a little longer each day as we head towards the spring. This is the hope of Winter... the knowledge that in dark times, spring is ever on the horizon.
Nevertheless, winter has just begun and the sign most representitive of this season is Capricorn. The Sun enters Capricorn on the day of the Solstice. This is a reflective time. Even as we celebrate, we are taking stock of the year that's passed and planning ahead for the New. This is a time for resolutions, many of which we later forget as we juggle all of our duties and responsibilities. Nevertheless, Capricorn the sign of diligence and responsibility invites us to be realistic and make resolutions which are possible to maintain.
Nature itself invites us to be quiet and reflective. Gone are the garrish colours of summer and the glorious golds of autumn. Instead we can enjoy the beautiful structure of trees, the beauty of textured trunks and moody landscapes. This is a necessary rest from the buzz of the rest of the year. It is in quiet reflection that the most lasting and meaningful resolutions can be made.
So while you are enjoying the feasts of the season allow some space to be quiet and listen to your inner voice. Allow that to guide you in the New Year.
Have a Wonderful, Joyful Christmas!!!
15/12/11
Today the Moon has remained in Virgo. It has been in a tense link with the Sun. If you're a Virgo, Pisces, Gemini or Sagittarius, this may have been a stressful day. Happily, there is a nice link with Venus and Mars so chances are that small mishaps were able to be smoothed over.
If you're a Taurus or Capricorn, the Venusian link means that your day is likely to be sociable. It's the perfect day to be with friends. The link with Mars could also indicate joint ventures. Doing your Christmas shopping with friends or making decorations with them, would be the perfect way to use this energy. Enjoy!
14/12/11
The Moon is in Virgo, very close to Mars in a positive link with Jupiter and Pluto. This is a very positive energy. In the lead up to Christmas, it's a good time to get things done and for shopping too. It's likely you'll find just what you need. Still with Jupiter involved, watch you don't get carried away with the spending.
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Virgo, Capricorn or Taurus.
13/12/11
The Moon is still in Cancer, but today it has been in a tense link with Saturn. This means that your plans may have been delayed or otherwise altered. For my part, my cold has got worst despite my best efforts and I've now had to reschedule all of tomorrow's appointments. Classic Saturn.
If you're a Cancerian, Capricorn, Libra or Aries, you may be more sensitive to this energy.
12/12/11
Today the Moon has been in Cancer. Cancer is about nurturing. This is exactly what I've been needing today. After two intense weeks in which today was my first day off, I've woken up with a cold. It's not serious but I'm seeing five clients for hypnotherapy, others for readings and I'm teaching at the weekend. If I'm going to be able to do any of this, I'll need to ensure that this cold stays a minor inconvenience. Nurturing has been the key to the day.
You are in greatest need of nurturing if you're a Cancerian, Capricorn, Libra or Aries.
11/12/11
Yesterday there was a Lunar Eclipse in Gemini. If you are a Gemini,
Sagittarius, Pisces or Virgo you may have been feeling very sensitive in
the last couple of days. The Full Moon is always a time of heightened
emotion, but this one had the added element of a Lunar Eclipse. This
means that if you are one of the above signs, you are likely to undergo
an important emotional shift in the coming months.
Yesterday I was privileged enough to witness such a shift. It was the
last day of the second part of my hypnotherapy course. My teacher was
demonstrating the power of regression. One of my fellow students
volunteered to work on some of her wounds. We watched spellbound and
many of us with tears flowing down our faces as for the next three ours
the wonderful therapy worked to heal some deep and traumatic wounds.
When all was finished, my teacher looked happy, but the brave volunteer
with whom he was working looked calm. A big emotional shift had
occurred, the ramifications of which will unfold in the coming months.
This brave student was a Pisces.
6/12/11
The Moon has been in Taurus today, right next to Jupiter. In fact if you look up tonight you'll see it very close to the Moon. It looks like a bright star, but it's actually our largest planet. Together, the Moon and Jupiter are Opposite Saturn and in a nice link with Pluto. This means that you may have felt as though you were ready to leap forward, only to find that something is stopping you and holding you back. Dig deep and find out what that is. The obstacles in front of you may be reflecting an inner reluctance to move forward.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're a Taurus, Scorpio, Aquarius or Leo.
5/12/11
Today the Moon has remained in Aries. Aries is about action and sometimes conflict and confrontation. It has been Opposite Saturn which is about structure, discipline, hard work and delays. Today I've started the second part of my course in Hypnotherapy. The focus was on the value of confrontation in therapy and how to spot problems that might delay progress. Very appropriate!
4/12/11
Today the Moon has been in Aries, close to Uranus, in a nice link with the Sun and Mercury, but in a tense link with Venus and Pluto. This means that it's been a good day to be with friends, to do something active and different. It's a good day to join a group too.
On the relationship side of things, it's been a bit more tricky. You may find that emotions are very intense. One party may be feeling very impatient and conflict or frustration could be a result. It's best to think before anything is said today as the temptation to speak before thinking is high. To do so may leave you repenting at leisure. Take care!
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're an Aries, Capricorn, Cancerian or Libra.
3/12/11
The tally of Mercury Retrograde events is growing. Two days ago the recording of a reading that I did for a client, appeared to consist solely of white noise. I still can't work out what went wrong as other recordings done since are fine. So instead of the recording I've sent him my detailed notes, edited so that they make sense to him. I know this will be fine as some clients actually ask for my notes as they are so comprehensive. Still I would have like him to have had the recording!!!!
Today a non-technical mishap occurred. My lessons normally run from 10- 4. Today we started at 11 and were due to finish at 5. Forgetting that we had started later, I ended the lesson at 4. The thing is that no one said anything. It was only after they'd gone and when my partner returned home and expressed surprise at finding me on my own, that I realised what had happened. Several things conspired to help me in this error- the first, crucially, was that one of my students asked me when we were finishing. Because we often over-run, I took it to mean that she was concerned that we should finish on time and I replied 4. As I wasn't corrected at that point, I carried on determined not to delay her! Further contributing to my confusion, one of my students was ill today. With one person out, it means that there was less time spent on presentations and we covered material more quickly. Consequently, I did cover the whole lesson plan. I had in mind other things, I'd like to have done had I had more time, but thinking I was out of time, I finished the day.
The moral of this story is that when Mercury is Retrograde, confusion reigns, especially if you've broken with a routine and are feeling tired!
2/12/11
Today there has been a build up of energy in Mutable signs (Sagittarius, Pisces, Virgo, Gemini). The Moon in Pisces has been Opposite Mars and in a tense connection with the Sun, which has also been in a tense link with Mars. Whenever this happens, it means tension. If you're a Mutable sign, you may have had a challenging day. You may have felt angry, frustrated and found yourself in an argument. If you're feeling under pressure to make a decision, it's best to wait for things to calm down. In the meantime, as the Moon is in Pisces a bit of escapism could well help relieve tension. A film could well be just what you need this evening. You're not likely to be in a mood to be rational, so fantasy is the answer.
30/11/11
If you've been feeling that your relationships have been a bit funny the last few days, you can put it down to the fact that Venus and Uranus have been in a tense link with each other. You may have felt irritated by your partner or have been at the receiving end of their impatience. The crux of the matter has been the need to change. One of you may be pressing the other leading to a disruption to the status quo. The change may be needed but it is nevertheless very challenging and causing some disruption. The tension is now easing and things will get lighter in this respect.
However, as Venus approaches Pluto, intense feelings are likely to surface once again. This time, passion and a joint need to regenerate and heal will be a welcome change to Uranus' disruption.
You are likely to be most sensitive to this energy if you're a Capricorn, Aries, Cancerian or Libra
Today the Moon has been in Aquarius, very close to Neptune. It's also in a nice link with Mercury and Saturn. Today brings an opportunity for healing, seize it and enjoy!
You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're an Aquarius, Gemini or Libra
28/11/11
The Moon has been in Capricorn. This is a serious sign so you may have been giving serious thought to various areas of your life in the last couple of days. Today the mood has become even more serious as the Moon has been in a tense connection with Saturn. Saturn is the planet that is linked with Capricorn. This combination means that you may have been feeling restricted, weighed down with responsibility. The mood is heavy and possibly depressed. If you are feeling this way, remember that pessimism is not realism. You may be viewing things too darkly. Rather than locking yourself away, talk to a friend. Chances are they'll have a more balanced perspective than you do at the moment.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're a Capricorn, Libra, Cancerian or Aries.
25/11/11
It's been a very Sagittarius day- what I mean is that the Sun and Moon are both in Sagittarius and funnily enough I've interviewed a wonderful Sagittarius for Lightways today> He is Matteo Pistono and we talked about his book chronicalling his travels through Tibet. I've also edited an interview for Lightways with Chef Gary Knowles who has the Moon in Sagittarius and one of my clients today also has the Moon in Sagittarius. I think you get the picture!
So the mood may be philosophical or spiritual but as we had a Partial Solar Eclipse today, it might be useful to think about what that could mean. Sagittarius is a Fire sign which means that emotions and passions are prone to running high. It is also linked with political ideals which could lead to political unrest. Next week our unions are due to go on strike. With Mercury being Retrograde in Sagittarius, there are already warnings of possinle chaos at airports. Actually when we had the total Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius back in June, I was on LBC talking about the possibility of unrest. We then had the riots which disrupted transport while Mercury was Retrograde. I'm not in any way suggesting that we are due to have more riots, the set up is quite different at the moment. However, political unrest is very much on the cards.
Which brings me to Egypt. It all started with the Arab Spring and it was hoped that Egypt would lead the way in a peaceful transition to democracy. A look at Egypt's chart would have revealed a more prolonged process than might have been hoped. This Eclipse is happening very close to an Opposition to Egypt's Jupiter. Jupiter is the ruler of Sagittarius, linked with Kings and belief. The people of Egypt believe that they are not being given what they were promised and are standing up for what they believe is right. It will be a while yet before they feel they are getting what they want. As with all revolutions, it takes time to restore order and structure to society.
On a more personal level. We may all find that our beliefs are being challenged in the coming months. If you're a Sagittarius, this may be a time of growth as you seek to expand in knowledge and understanding. If you're a Gemini, Virgo or Pisces, you may find this time challenging as cherished beliefs are questioned and you have to make choices as to what you believe is right and what others are telling you. Where is the truth, that could be the question you will have to ask yourself.
If you're a Leo or Aries, you may experience this energy in a similar way to Sagittarians.
24/11/11
Hold on to your hats, we're in for a bumpy ride as Mercury is now Retrograde. Although an optical illusion akin to being on a still train but feeling like we're moving because the train next to us is moving, Retrograde Mercury's effect are no less real. This is a time when you may need to revisit old decision that need adjustment or redo work that has been done in the past.
For my part, I've already been feeling it's disruptive effects as people seek to change appointment times and my normally orderly diary is becoming chaotic.
Other effects already in evidence involve our car (Mercury is the planet linked with transport) had its service yesterday. Today when we were getting ready to go out, my partner checked the oil just to see whether it had been changed. Thankfully he has Mercury in Capricorn and thinks to check these things. To our surprise too much oil has been put in, endangering the catalytic converter. The oil was also dirty, suggesting that rather than replacing the oil, they had merely topped up the old with some new. Not what you expect from a service! Needless to say, tomorrow he's taking the car back to get the job redone... and to think this is only the first day!
23/11/11
The Sun is in Sagittarius. This is a fun loving sign and as we head for the Christmas period, the party season is just around the corner. This is most appropriate for this fun loving sign. there is more to this sign than fun. This is also the sign of the philosopher, the priest and the traveller. What does this mean? For the next month, you may find that these topics are more prevalent in the news. In fact, yesterday as the Sun went into Sagittarius, the news that Thomas Cook, the travel company, could be in trouble first broke. We are hearing continuously about different companies being in trouble, but I thought it was interesting that it was a travel company being mentioned as the Sun entered Sagittarius.
Of course it may also be that you are tempted to do some travelling, sign up for something spiritual or simply find yourself pondering the meaning of existence more often than usual.
22/11/11
The Moon is still in Libra but today it is very close to Saturn and in a nice link with Neptune and Chiron. There is a balance between realism and romance. You may have felt like you wanted to get things done but still been able to do a bit of dreaming. Alternatively, it may be that you were able to resolve some issues with a loved one, being firm, fair and compassionate.
If ther are issues that need to be resolved, it would be better to do so sooner rather than later because as The Moon moves closer to an Opposition with Jupiter, the ability to keep calm is reduced and the temptation to exaggerate and get carried away increases.
You are most likely to benefit from today's energy if you're a Libra, Gemini or Aquarius. This energy is also good for Sagittarius and Leo.
21/11/11
The Moon has been in Libra today. Libra places great importance on relationships. With the Moon in Libra, the way that you relate to others is under the spotlight. The difficulty is that the Moon is in a difficult link with Pluto. This brings intensity to your dealings with others this evening. you may find that holding onto anger is difficult and if you're trying to hide how you feel, this may be counterproductive. An honest discussion may be what's required.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're a Libra, Aries, Capricorn or Cancerian.
20/11/11
It's been a few days since I last wrote. This is because I've been sooooo busy! I wrote about Mars in Virgo being all about work, and I've been living that energy for the last week. A backlog of work has now been finished and I'm catching my breath. Today the Moon has also been in Virgo. Funnily enough in the group that I was teaching, the majority of my students present have Virgo Ascendants. We covered a great deal of work in detail.
The Moon is Opposite Uranus, and today has been a day of unexpected events. Two of my students were unable to make it because they are unwell. One has the Moon in Sagittarius, and the other is a Gemini. If you are a Mutable sign (Virgo, Pisces, Sagittarius, Gemini) you may have found that today held some surprises.
14/11/11
Mars has been in Virgo for a few days now. This is a time during which getting things done becomes the priority. With Christmas coming, this could be most helpful. You may find the urge to get organised or to have a clear out. Practical considerations are the key as you try to analyse and make sound decisions. Virgo is also about detail, so it's likely that you are challenged to focus on small things.
If you are a Virgo, Taurus or Capricorn, you are likely to enjoy this energy. You should feel that things are moving more smoothly and easily. You will feel a drive to piroritise and focus on what you need to do. This may not seem like much fun but it will help you to feel a sense of purpose and achievement.
If you are a Gemini, Sagittarius or Pisces, the need to focus on detail may be quite furstrating as this may not be your forte. You amy feel frustrated as you are required to prioritise and get organised. It's also possible that you find yourself in conflict with others or angry during this time. If so, you need to consider what it being required of you. It may be that you are being pushed out of your comfort zone.
13/11/11
If you are a Gemini, today is likely to have been an easier day than yesterday. That is because the Moon is in a nice link with Saturn, Neptune and Chiron. It is a day in which things may have got done more easily and feelings may have been more readily shared and understood. A welcome change from yesterday.
You are most likely to have benefitted from today's energy if you're a Gemini, Libra or Aquarius.
12/11/11
Today the Moon has been in Gemini and it's opposite Mercury and Venus. This means that you may be feeling a bit forgetful or simply missing the detail. Communication may be tricky too, especially with loved ones. This may be due to lack of clarity. There is the potential for miscommunication leading to misunderstandings. If you're experiencing this, it may feel as though there are two parallel conversations going on between you and another party. Both are speaking but either no one is listening or neither party is understanding what the other is saying. The key to resolving this, is to listen carefully before responding. Then you'll be more likely to provide an appropriate response. This will help the other person feel valued and hopefully they will then be more inclined to listen to you.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're a Gemini, Sagittarius, Virgo or Pisces.
11/11/11
The Full Moon last night was in Taurus and the Sun in Scorpio. A good friend came to dinner. The conversation revolved around death- that covered Scorpio; then it turned to property- a matter related to Taurus. So that was the Full Moon reflected in our conversation.
As I write, the Moon is in the last degree of Taurus, in a tense link with Mars, Neptune and Chiron. Once again if you're a Scorpio, Taurus, Leo or Aquarius, you will be more sensitive to this energy. There is tension in the air. Someone's feelings my be hurt and there's the chance that this is due to either unrealistic expetations or misunderstandings. Be gentle and try to untangle messy feelings tomorrow. It's likely that those affected tonight will feel better and clearer in the morning.
10/11/11
As Full Moons go, today's is fairly uncomplicated. What I mean is that aside from the Sun Moon Opposition inherant in a Full Moon, there are no other major tense links to other planets. This is good news for Fixed Signs, (Scorpio, Taurus, Aquarius, Leo) as they are most likely to be sensitive to this Full Moon. If you're feeling edgy, try to take the pressure off yourself by doing something you enjoy this evening. Anything that is relaxing is a good idea. Try to avoid dealing with anyone who is troubling you until at least the weekend. In other words, the rule for today is 'take it easy'.
9/11/11
Some days have the potential to be very good days. Today has been one of those. The Moon is in Taurus sitting next to Jupiter. (Look out tonight and you will see what looks like a bright star close to the Moon- that is Jupiter). Both the Moon and Jupiter are in a nice link with Mars and Pluto. This means that today had the potential to be one of those days where there is generosity of spirit in abundance. You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Taurus, Capricorn or Virgo. Pisces, too may benefit from this energy.
The Moon is becoming ever fuller, if you're a Taurus, hopefully the Moon's link with Jupiter, Pluto and Mars will make this lead up to the Full Moon easier. However, if you're a Scorpio, Leo or Aquarius, you need to be gentle with yourself.
5/11/11
The Moon is still in Pisces but it is in a nice link with the Sun in Scorpio. Pisces and Scorpio are both Water signs and water is the element of feelings. This is the perfect day for sharing your feelings with others. You're likely to find a willing and sympathetic listener who helps you to understand yourself and feel a whole lot better. It's also possible that you're the one playing this role for others.
You're most likely to benefit from this healing energy if you're a Pisces, Scorpio or Cancerian. If you're a Capricorn or Taurus, the warmth of the day is likely to touch you too.
4/11/11
The Moon has been in Pisces today. This is a sign linked with fantasy and dreamy moods. My day has certainly had a dreamy quality to it. Having had my parents visiting for two lovely weeks, today was the day in which I had to see them return home to Canada. It was a difficult parting at 7am at Gatwick. We were all rather drousy having left the house at quarter past 6, and although I had a little nap when I got home, the day was moody and dreamy throughout.
Knowing I'd be tired, I'd deliberately kept the day clear of appointments and proceeded to prepare for my students this weekend. I made pumpkin soup, chestnuts tarts and prepared all the teaching materials with DVDs playing in the background. I can honestly say, I've spent the day in my own little world- very Piscean. An early night beckons.
3/11/11
Venus is now in Sagittarius. The mood is one of travel and expansiveness. You may find yourself having more contact with people from abroad or planning your own travels. When Venus is in Sagittarius, she's in the mood for the exotic and the philosophical. Your hobbies may take on a more adventurous feel too. Sagittarius is a very outgoing sign and so you may find yourself attending more parties. This is also a sign that loves freedom and space. If you're of a more introvert nature, your mood could be for long walks in the country. Whatever your personal preference, the idea is to have fun and to think deeply.
You're more likely to feel this energy if you're a Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo or Pisces.
2/11/11
Mercury is now in Sagittarius. This is a time for big ideas. It is also an ideal time to take an overview and consider the big picture. At a time when political expediency seems to be confusing the more important issues globally, this is advice that our rulers should be taking seriously.
Sagittarius is also a sign that invites us to be open minded and to expand our horizons. While Mercury, the planet associated with learning and the mind is in this sign, you may find that you are in the mood to learn about a new culture, new language or a different philosophical approach to life. You may want to embrace new ideas that encourage you to open your mind. You may also find that you are involved in conversations about the big issues in life- from politics to spirituality. During this period, you are invited to engage with the deeper meaning of life and events.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're a Sagittarius, Gemini, Virgo or Pisces.
1/11/11
Today's mood has been more gentle than yesterday's. Communication flows easily as the Moon is in a nice link with Mercury. A positive link with Venus brings an opportunity to mend fences and another helpful link to Uranus means that you may even find unexpected help from friends.
Once again, you are mosr sensitive to this energy if you're a Capricorn, Cancerian, Libra or Aries. However, Scorpios and Pisceans are likely to benefit too.
31/10/11
The Moon is still in Capricorn. This is a diligent sign with a great sense of responsibility. Today may well have been a day when your responsibilities felt too great. You may have been yearning for a bit of light relief. However, with the Moon in a tense link with Saturn, it is more likely that you achieved less than you would have liked. Saturn often forces us to rethink, prioritise and refine. If you didn't do everything you thought you wanted to do, then it may be that you were trying to do too much. Prioritising and refining, rather than being a chore may well be the key to a less frustrating period.
You are most sensitive to this energy if you're a Capricorn, Cancerian, Libra or Aries.
28/10/11
As I write there is a big build up of energy in Fixed Signs (Scorpio, Taurus, Leo, Aquarius). At such times there is usually a build up of tension. Today it's between the Moon, Mercury and Venus in Scorpio, in a tense link to Mars and Neptune. This suggests a frustrating day if you're a fixed sign. Underlying this frustration may be unrealistic expectations leading to disillusionment. You may need to rethink your plans as you may be trying to do to much. This may cause conflict with others, particularly in the area of relationships or with friends. Alternatively, the frustration may be that you are not getting the time you need to spend with loved ones; or that someone close to you is not living up to your expectations. Whatever the cause of the frustration, try to be realistic, this will mean that you are less likely to be disappointed.
27/10/11
Today the Moon is in Scorpio alongside Mercury and together, they are Opposite Jupiter. This means that you may be feeling expansive in your communications. You could feel compelled to share your ideas and feelings with others. Strong feelings can mean that you are not paying attention to detail or that you get carried away. Try to stick to the facts and avoid exaggeration, this will make your communication more effective. As this is happenning in Fixed signs, you are most sensitive to this energy if you're a Scorpio, Taurus, Leo or Aquarius.
26/10/11
Today we have a New Moon in Scorpio. This is no time to be holding back the truth as secrets are likely to come out. Venus is also Square Mars, so it is likely that if you've been holding back some feelings, the tension bubble will burst. Diplomacy may be lacking which is a shame as the truth can be damaging. Tact and timing could really help to ease tension and be more constructive in the long run. You are most like to experience this tension if you're a Scorpio, Taurus, Leo or Aquarius.
25/10/11
The Sun is now in Scorpio. This is a time of year when we watch as everything around us seems to be dying. Hallowe'en is virtually upon us, a festival which links us with those who have passed; a time when the veil between this world and the next is at its thinnest. What does this mean for Scorpio and for the time when the Sun is in this sign? In truth this is a time of renewal rather than death. Just as a phoenix rises out of the ashes and a snake sheds its skin to be renewed, we are now invited to renew ourselves and our relationships. To achieve this, we need to dig deep inside ourselves, bravely confronting our fears and inhibitions. Only then can we focus on what really matters with honesty rising like the phoenix renewed and wiser. This is the challenge of the month, it may be painful but the rewards are worth the effort.
24/10/11
It's been a hectic week as I caught up with a backlog of work that couldn't be done while I was on my hypnotherapy course and of course got on with editing Lightways. There was no time left for a proper blog. I'm back in the swing of things now and feeling organised and efficient, just the thing when the Moon is in Virgo. Virgo is about getting things done, and I finally feel that I've caught up with everything and am ready to move forward.
There is another side to the day, and that is because the Moon is Opposite Uranus. You may find that today there are little unexpected events. Another interpretation for this is that you may be feeling bored and in the need for adventure. Take care that you don't upset others too much be reacting radically, or to put it another way- over-reacting. The desire for radical action, is likely to come from a need to rebel.
You are most sensitive to today's energy if you're a Virgo, Pisces, Gemini or Sagittarius.
16/10/11
The Moon today has been in Gemini. This is the sign of communication so it was perfect for being on BBC Radio London with Jeni Barnett this morning. Interestingly all the callers had charts with a strong emphasis on the Mutable Signs (Gemini, Sagittarius, Pisces, Virgo). In one case two callers who followed each other were asking similar questions. Their charts were so similar that I had to check that I was really looking at two different charts.
It's been a busy day as I had to rush home to teach. After six days of attending an intensive hypnotherapy course from 9-6 every day, I wondered whether I'd have enough energy to do a radio show and teach. I'm delighted to say that the positive links between the Moon and Saturn as well as the Moon and Mars have been most helpful. If I had to choose an Astrological set up to support me today, I couldn't have chosen better.
You were most likely to have benefited from this energy if you are a Gemini, Libra, Aquarius, Leo, Sagittarius or Aries.
13/10/11
Today the Moon has been in Taurus. Taurus is associated with the throat and voice. My wonderful hypnotherapy course is continuing to go well. The Taurean energy was very obvious when two of my fellow students, independently of each other and without oblivious to eachother's requests, asked me to help them to develop greater confidence in their voices. One of them even asked me to help him relax his throat. Synchronicity in action. I also thought it was interesting that they asked a Taurean to do this for them.
If you're a Taurus, Scorpio, Leo or Aquarius, chances are that you've had a challenging day. This is because the Moon has had a tense link to Mars, and Venus. You may have felt threatened or angry with someone today. Happily, the nice link with Pluto and the Moon's proximity to Jupiter are likely to help resolve any issues that might have come up.
11/10/11
The Moon is coming to it's peak in Aries at 3:05 tomorrow morning. This means that emotions may be running a little high. I've been in a bit of a bubble again today as my wonderful hypnotherapy course continues. Nevertheless, I did notice that there were a number of reactions as we practiced on each other which our teacher told us were unusual. There were a few people who had unsolicited, strong emotional reactions, something we were told was uncommon. I myself experienced what's called a hypnosis hangover! Could it be the Full Moon? Very likely.
Meanwhile in the outside world, those most likely to be feeling this Moon are the cardinal signs as the Moon is in Aries. So if you're an Aries, Libra, Cancerian or Capricorn, you may be feeling energised or stressed. If it's the latter, allow yourself to relax as much as possible and avoid allowing tension to govern your decisions. As the Moon Wanes and you feel more relaxed, you will be in a better frame of mind to act.
10/10/11
Today the Moon has been with Uranus and has been approaching in a link with Pluto. Uranus is about the unconventional, alternative, while Pluto is linked with deep unconscious drives. I spent the day in an intense hypnotherapy course. I think it's a subject that fully expresses today's Moon energy.
9/10/11
Today the Moon has been in Pisces. This is a dreamy sign that loves a good story. Funnily enough while pondering on what to write about this evening, it occurred to me that I spent the day telling stories. It is not unusual for me to tell stories while I'm teaching, but I think that today there were more than usual. Come to think of it, I think I told a few stories yesterday too. These are used to help my students understand new concepts being introduced. Stories are taken from mythology or my own experience. Somehow in the last couple of days they seemed to be flowing out of me.
7/10/11
As I write, the Moon is still in Aquarius. It is with Neptune and Chiron and in a nice link with Mercury, Venus and Saturn. In short this has the potential to be a very nice day- dreamy but with enough focus to get things done. It's also good for communication and friendly encounters. If you're a Gemini, Aquarius or Libra, you're likely to feel pleasantly dreamy and social.
If you're a Taurus, Scorpio or Leo, chances are that today has been less tense than yesterday.
Enjoy! Whatever your sign, it's the perfect night to enjoy with friends.
6/10/11
The Moon is still in Aquarius today but it is in a nice link with the Sun. If you're a Gemini, Libra, Sagittarius or Aries, today should be a pleasant day. It's a good day to be social so planning to be with friends or being part of a group will make for an evening of fun, stimulation and good humour. You may also find that your everyday interactions are easier or that you can have a very pleasant conversation with a stranger.
If you're a Fixed sign (Aquarius, Leo, Taurus or Scorpio), the Moon's Opposition to Mars is growing in intensity this morning so you'll need to draw on your great reserves of patience! You may find that instead of counting to 10, you're counting to 20! Confrontation is not inevitable, nor is it always undesirable. It's all about timing and how it's managed. Sometimes we need to clear the air but it might be best to do it when all parties have cooled down. The pressure to say something that you might regret this morning is high. Count to 20 and then decide whether it's the right time or whether it would be better to have a less heated discussion later.
5/10/11
The Moon has gone into Aquarius now which is great if you're a Cardinal sign (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, Libra) and have been feeling stressed the last couple of days. However, if you're a Leo, Aquarius, Taurus or Scorpio, this Moon is likely to be challenging. It's in an opposition with Mars which means that you're likely to be feeling angry or frustrated. Jupiter is in a tense aspect with the Moon so your awareness of your needs has become magnified but it's unlikely that those needs are being met. This then leads to anger and frustration. It would be helpful if you could scale things down and look after the basics, this will help to alleviate some of the frustration.
4/10/11
If you are a Capricorn, Aries, Libra or Cancerian, this may not be your favourite day of the week. There is a great deal of tension between the Moon in Capricorn, the Sun, Mercury and Saturn. It will also be building up to a tense connection with Venus. This tension may not be as intense as yesterday's link with Pluto and Uranus, but nevertheless, it can be hard. The difficulty is one of frustration. You may be feeling restricted as to the options available to you or find that things are not moving as quickly as you like. There is also the possibility that you're not hearing what you'd like to hear or that you're finding it difficult to communicate. If this is the case, it's best to step back and plan. Refining your plans or planning what you need to say may be helpful.
2/10/11
What a lovely day! I mean that in every respect. The weather continued to be reminiscent of August and the picture in the heavens was just as sunny. The Moon in Sagittarius has been in a friendly link with Venus and Saturn.
My day reflected the Sunny weather and planetary alignment. I was teaching all day but the group gets on very well together and a new student joining for the first time, fitted in so well that it was as if she'd been there from the beginning. I love it when everyone gels together and the lesson just flows. It was a very social day (Venus) in which lots got done (Saturn).
I hope your day was as pleasant as mine.
1/10/11
We begin October in the garb of full summer. It looks like October, it gets dark considerably earlier than in August but it feels like high summer. Such are the vagaries of life. This is rather philosophical way to begin my blog, but then the Moon today is in the sign of the philosopher, Sagittarius. This is a much more peaceful day than we've seen since the New Moon in Libra. For a start, being in Sagittarius means that you may be feeling like you want to have fun and be free. Alternatively, you may be in the mood to learn something or think about your spiritual development. For my part, as my advanced group are about to start working on Eclipses, I've been doing some writing on the subject. This has led me to spend a long time pndering their significance from an Astrological and Philosophical perspective. Much of this this thinking was done in our local country pub, sitting in a comfortable chair just on the edge of the garden. Very Sagittarius. Actually, more philosophising ensued when my partner shared the Spiritualist magazine he was reading with me. The article outlined how much we could learn from our dogs if we were to allow them to be our teachers.Philosophy and animals- another link with today's sign.
Other indicators of a nice day are the fact that the Moon is in a nice link with the Sun, Mercury, Mars and Uranus. To some up, today you will benefit from doing something fun or unusual with friends. Just as well that it's the weekend! You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're a Sagittarius, Aries, Leo, Libra or Aquarius.
If you're a Gemini, Pisces, Virgo or to a lesser extent Taurus and Cancerian, today's Tense link between the Moon and Chiron indicates that you or someone close to you could be feeling vulnerable. If that's the case, you need to take extra care that you're not hurtful in your attempts to protect yourself and equally that if you're hurt, you communicate your feelings. This could be an opportunity for healing any issues that may be lurking in the back of your mind.
30/09/11
The Moon is still in Scorpio, but now that it is no longer linked to Mars, today should be an easier day. Just as well since Scorpio is intense enough without any complications. So be prepared for some intense conversations through the day. Funnily enough a Scorpio friend is coming to dinner tonight. I'm guessing the conversation won't be frivolous!
29/09/11
The Moon has been in Scorpio Opposite Jupiter and in a Tense link with Mars. If you're Scorpio, Taurus, Leo or Aquarius, this may have been a strange and somewhat frustrating day. It seemed to hold such promise with the Sun shining and the hottest September day since some time in the 19th Century. So it was because my partner has been going through a very difficult time, we took the unusual decision to take the afternoon off and head for Brighton. We hoped that the sea air and sunshine along with a late lunch at our favourite cafe on the beach would be healing. It was.... but it was also frustrating.
Lunch didn't live up to its promise. This is unusual as we've eaten in this cafe on a few occasions and until today, never failed to be impressed. In fact, we nearly didn't get a table there but thought ourselves lucky when one became available. We forgave the lack lustre lunch as we sat looking at the sea. When we left, we decided to linger a little longer. We walked along the beach and eventually sat on a bench looking out to sea.
It's not often that one is accosted by drunks in the middle of the afternoon. Our peace was disturbed by a woman (old enough to know better) who nearly sat herself on my lap due to an inability to recognise the need for personal space. I guessed she was drunk judging from her exaggerated movements moved over and decided to ignore the smell of wine coming from her. I nearly forgot she was there as I looked out to sea. After clumsily fumbling in her bag, she brought her face rather close to mine. Presumably because she couldn't easily see my face as I was wearing a large sun hat, showed me her house keys and triumphantly announced "at least I've still got my flat keys". I smiled and agreed that this was a very good thing. What came next was rather surprising. "What do you thing we should do about all the lost youth?" Rather taken aback by such a large question being asked by a drunken stranger, I gently remarked that this was rather a large question to be asked on such a sunny afternoon. She replied, "but you look like the sort of person who thinks about such deep questions." I think this remark was even more surprising! What in my appearance betrayed my ability to ponder deep questions. Of course this is what I do all the time but not usually when I'm trying to relax and forge the ills of the world on a beautiful afternoon. I smiled gently and suggested that while some were lost many were doing very well. She left, telling me that she'd pass my words on to the youth of Peckham with whom she worked. Jupiter is a planet of excess and philosophy. This was a very Jupiterian moment.
I then decided that I would like an icecream and made my way to a little place selling cakes, burgers and icecream. I stood with a woman looking at the different icecreams available and trying to work out what the flavours were from their different colours. Then we spotted it. The container holding what looked like a chocolate mix of some kind was labeled as a cheese panier. We looked at each other and smiled. She called the man who was serving and asked for clarification. His English failed him so he shrugged. An English speaking woman attended. The lady next to me pointed to the label.and was rudely told that this wasn't cheese but chocolate truffle. The lady asked that the label be removed as it made no sense to have it there. Attendant looked at her as though she was insane or a subspecies of humanity. After explaining to her that the lady next to me had a point, I walked off without icecream and somewhat amused by the stupidity of what I'd witnessed.
Another small frustration came a few minutes later when walking back to the car, my pristine white skirt was splattered by a flying bird who emptied its bowel. Not a pleasant experience! The journey home, normally takes just under an hour, today it took over two.
Little incidents, but rather unusual and small irritants. Just what you might expect when Mars is not in synch with the Moon. A good sense of humour saw us through the day and strangely enough, we both do feel more relaxed and peaceful than when we set out earlier in the day.
28/09/11
The Autumn Equinox was a few days ago and I always think of the changing of the seasons as a time to look back and reflect on what just passed. As it happens, yesterday was also the New Moon in Libra. Given the build up of energy in this sign. It's worth considering what it represents. Libra is the sign of the Autumn Equinox. On this day, day and night are the same length. Everything is in perfect balance. Very appropriate for the sign of the scales. This is indeed the aim of Libra to keep everything in balance.
I was reminded of the importance of balance when I was listening to Radio 4's Thought For the Day this morning. Chief Rabbi Lord Sacks was talking about the Jewish New Year- Rosh Hashanah. This, he explained is also the beginning of ten days of atonement. He went on to explain how this period is a period for taking stock, for thinking about where we might have gone wrong so that we might be able to apologise and make amends.
It's interesting that this was broadcast on a day with the Moon still in Libra because I think what he was talking about was about restoring balance. This process is key for our spiritual well being as well as for our relationships. Balance between people cannot always be reached, at which point, relationships must end, but it is necessary to aim for it. Balancing your needs and mine, recognising when I am wrong and forgiving you when you are hurtful. These are the ingredients for balance between individuals and having just had a New Moon in Libra at a time when the Moon is also close to Saturn, taking stock of our relationships is what we should all be doing.
27/09/11
Today the Moon has been in Libra, very close to the Sun, Mercury, Venus and getting ever closer to Saturn. The emphasis is on relationships and you may feel that there is something serious to be discussed or resolved. If you are a Gemini or Aquarius you may find today a good day to do just that.
However, the fact that this build up in Libra is also in a tense relationship with Pluto and Opposite Uranus means that if you're a Libra, Aries, Cancerian or Capricorn, your day may have been quite tense. You may feel impatient, and in need of rebelling or at least doing something different. This may be due to having too much pressure being put on you, but it may also be that someone close to you is not cooperating.
This, then may not the be best day for making a decision. Often when we are emotional, we want to act. Emotional decisions are often regretted. A cool head may be more beneficial in the long run.
25/09/11
The Moon is in Virgo today. It is well linked with Jupiter and Pluto. If you're a Virgo, Taurus or Capricorn, today is likely to have been a peaceful day. This is especially important if you've been through a turbulent time recently. Today could give you the peace you need to heal.
If you're a Gemini, Pisces, or Sagittarius, the Moon's Opposition to Chiron indicates that you may have been feeling rather vulnerable today. Allowing yourself some time to be on your own could be just the thing you need.
24/09/11
So it's been another week of economic upheaval and all eyes on Greece. Looking at their chart, it's not surprising. Pluto is currently Square both to their Moon and Pluto.Squares mean tension and crisis. If you are new to Astrology, the current economic situation began with Pluto's entry into Capricorn. This means that countries with Cardinal signs like Capricorn, Cancer, Libra or Aries are under extreme pressure. This is especially so for Cancer, Libra or Aries. With Uranus' entry into Aries this year, more pressure was brought to bear on these same signs. So it is that because Greece has the Moon exactly next to Pluto in Libra, when this has been activated by Pluto or Uranus in the last year, we've had a crisis. This week's is the latest. For a final resolution, I think we'll have to wait until next year when Uranus does it's last opposition to the Moon and Pluto.
Listening to Greek people- civil servants, people who have small businesses, normal working people, talking about struggling to afford food; we hear stories that are about a real struggle to survive. Survival is one of Pluto's main themes and here we are in a time when Pluto is triggering survival issues inherent in Greece's chart. At steak, are the lives of Greek people, Greece as we know it and the Euro itself.
Two nations seem to be most affected by the Greek crisis. France's banks stand to lose the most as it appears that they are most exposed by the Greek debt. France is a Libran country with Mercury and Venus also in Libra. Their Midheaven is in Aries. This year Venus and the Midheaven have been most affected by Uranus. Uranus usually indicates major disruption. Venus is linked with wealth.
Germany has a large part to play in how this crisis is worked out. Like France, it's latest chart has the Sun and Venus in Libra. Like France, Venus has been afflicted by a Uranus Opposition. I wish I could say that this will all be resolved in November, but these transits are in place until next year because even when Uranus moves away from its opposition to Venus, more is to come as it Opposes the Sun.
There are no quick fixes here. Pluto in Capricorn demands that a sustainable future be built even if it means breaking things down first. Only then can the Phoenix rise out of the ashes.
21/09/11
Mars is now in Leo. During its stay in this fiery sign, you might find yourself being bold. It is not a time to be retiring but to move forward positively and with great energy. Things just seem to flow more easily. It is also a good time to be creative. So whether it's painting, crafts, drama, music or just creative thinking, your creative juices should be flowing.
You are most likely to feel this energy if you're a Leo, Aries or Sagittarius.
If you're a Taurus, Scorpio or Aquarius, this can be a tricky time. You are likely to find yourself being challenged by others who do not share your views or who do not share your goals. You may find that you get frustrated and angry. Conflict is a strong possibility. The difficulty here is to judge when you need to assert yourself and when you need to compromise. It is best to resist acting impulsively. You may need to count to 10 a few times, but doing so increases your chances of finding a creative and diplomatic solution to contentious problems.
17/09/11
I didn't quite make it to Wisley yesterday. I didn't finish work early enough so there was no chance to get carried away with daffodil bulbs. It was nevertheless, a very Taurean afternoon with time on the allotment, followed by a walk in countryside and tea at Fanny's Farm. Tea included a large slice of coffee cake. Very indulgent. Then the evening was spent making three quiches and an apple tart for my students as well as then preparing dinner. That was a few hours of cooking- more Taurean activity.
The Moon is still in Taurus today but gone is the exuberance of Jupiter. Instead, today the Moon is Square Neptune. This is a much more dreamy and gentle mood. You're more likely to want to escape from reality. This is especially true if you're a Taurus, Scorpio, Leo or Aquarius.
Neptune is also about confusion and tonight, you could find that you're having to decide what is real and what isn't. Someone around you may not be making themselves clear or worst, they may not be telling the truth. Take care though, today is not the day to confront reality. It would be best to wait for this Square to pass as things will then become more clear.
16/09/11
Yesterday I wrote about Venus' entry into Libra and the fact that this could mean an increase in attractiveness for Libras. Well, watching the news last night, I saw a good example of this in action. David Cameron was treated like a hero on his visit to Libra. Venus was sitting exactly on his Libra Ascendant. He also is a Libra with Venus in his chart in Libra. No wonder he had such a good day yesterday!
Today the Moon is in Taurus and it is edging close to Jupiter. The mood is one of comfort and indulgence. If you're a Taurus, Capricorn or Virgo, this evening you might like to go out to dinner. Whatever you do, it needs to be fun and indulgent.
For my part, a visit to Wisley gardens when I finish working feels very appealing. In fact I think I'll buy some daffodil and tulip bulbs. Shopping and gardens- very Taurus but with Jupiter involved, I'll probably find being sensible as to the amount of money spent a little challenging.
15/09/11
Venus has just entered Libra. Venus is very much at home in this sign. Between now and the 10th of October, you may find that there is a real focus on relationships. In fact, I could already see it today. The topic of discussion on Mathew Wright's show this morning, was the fact that the current government have decided not to give couples who are cohabiting the same rights as those who are married. So the nature of the discussion was centred on relationships and marriage. I felt that it set the tone for things to come.
If you're a Libra, Gemini or Aquarius, this is a good time to network and socialise. You may find that you naturally want to do this even more than usual. It is a good time to meet new people and you may even be feeling romantic. People will find you especially attractive during this time and you may even be given gifts. Nothing big, necessarily. When Venus was in Virgo earlier this month, being an Earth sign, I benefitted from her generosity. One of my students brought me a bag of apples- a wonderful warm gesture. Other times, I've found that I've been the recipient of random acts of kindness.
On another note, you may be in the mood to have your hair done, go shopping, or find that you're simply more conscious of your apperance. Libra generally does this anyway but now, even more than usual. One other possibility is that you may be in the mood to be around creative people or may find that you're in the mood to be creative yourself.
If you're a Capricorn, Cancerian or Aries, your social calendar may be too full. Keeping up with friends may be difficult if you're feeling tired or are too busy working. Actually this is a good time to plan a little laziness. This will help you avoid becoming grumpy when you want to be having fun, but are too busy working.
14/09/11
The Moon is in Aries today but it's also Opposite Saturn. It's a day for getting things done, but slowly. The temptation is to rush but chances are that niggly delays will mean that you get frustrated. If you're an Aries, Libra, Capricorn or Cancerian, you may just be trying to move too quickly. This can mean that you make mistakes which slow you down anyway. So take it slowly, and all will be well.
One thing that might be helpful in reducing stress today is physical activity. Even if you feel too tired, a gentle walk could be just what's needed to help reduce tension. This is especially true if you had a tense Full Moon.
10/09/11
The Moon is in Aquarius and very close to Neptune and Chiron this evening. This lends a very dreamy and romantic quality to the day. It can also be very healing. The mood will remain tomorrow as The Moon goes into Pisces. It's a good time to talk through old hurts with a friend, or you may find that you're the one lending a sympathetic ear to another. This is especially likely if you're an Aquarius, Gemini or Libra.
If you're a Taurus, Scorpio or Leo, you may be in the mood to escape. Perhaps there is someone close to you who is being emotional and this may be disturbing. It may of course be you who are feeling emotional and would like to find a way out of a situation. The best thing to do is go gently. You may need to take some time out for yourself. Music, a bath or meditation may be just what you need to restore balance.
8/09/11
If I didn't know any better, I might have thought that Mercury was Retrograde again! It's been a very tricky day for communication. So what is Mercury doing? It has been in a difficult connection with Saturn, Neptune and Chiron. The Moon being in Aquarius, the issue was one of technology. In some of my study groups, there are students who participate via Skype. This is normally not a problem and I have often had conference calls through the day without a hitch. Today though was mad. We have never had such a challenging time. Eventually, we worked out that the problem was with one of the skype participants and we decided that she would swap to using a phone. This was a landline being used and her phone went dead! Thankfully we are both fixed signs and determination won the day- but boy was it frustrating!
Meanwhile, my partner went to put the car through an MOT. The dashboard stopped working. An electronic problem- Aquarius is linked with electronics. So there you are the Moon in Aquarius and a Mercury rather besieged.
Have you had any communication or travel hitches today?
7/09/11
Sometimes I'm struck by how much difference a day makes. On Sunday night, I decided that we really needed a short break somewhere really sunny- preferably Sicily because of the lack of sun that we are currently experiencing. By Monday our plans were taking shape and we highlighted a week where this might be possible. The Moon was then in the travelling sign of Sagittarius- all was possibility and optimism. I went to bed really looking forward to a sunny break.
By yesterday morning, the Moon had entered Capricorn. Research showed that it was difficult to get flights for exactly when we wanted and with little leeway due to work commitments, we abandoned the plans for Sicilly and considered other destinations. About half way through our research, my partner ( a Capricorn) said- "is this sensible"? We have so much do do to prepare for building work that's about to start on the house at the end of September... I then thought of the extra prep I would have to do for students so that I was ready to teach the minute I arrived. Sensible? Most certainly not! In fact the thought of it all exhausted me! The Moon is still in Capricorn and I'm still feeling sensible and plan to use my time to deal with the continuing harvest. It's still a little break but more productive and ultimately less stressful and more relaxing. I just hope the sun shines that week!
4/09/11
The Moon is in Sagittarius today. Everytime I turn on the TV or radio, I see or hear Alistair Darling talking about his memoirs. Alistair Darling is a Sagittarius.
Sagittarius themes have featured highly with me today too. One of my students lives in Switzerland and usually participates in the monthly study group via Skype. Today, however, was special, as she was able to join us in person. We then took her to the airport at the end of the lesson. She has the Moon in Sagittarius, was travelling in London and taking her to the airport was also very Sagittarian.
There was more though as a good part of today's lesson seemed to feature Mundane Astrology. (Astrology about world affairs). This was not exactly planned but somehow discussions seemed to veer in that direction and remain there, with philosophical considerations about the nature of society and law. I love the way that a day's mood is so linked with the Moon.
3/09/11
With the Moon in Scorpio, there are often very intense feelings. Today it is in a tense link with Mercury and Neptune. This means that you may find communicating your feelings a little difficult. The potential for misunderstandings is high, so you need to take things gently. This is especially likely if you're a Scorpio, Taurus, Leo or Aquarius.
If you're a Pisces or Cancerian, you may be benefitting from the fact that the Moon is nicely linked with Mars today. you may feel energetic and find that you can really get things done.
2/09/11
Last night I wrote about the need for romance. Today there is a need for fun as well. The Sun and Venus are still very close together, but they are well linked with the Moon and Jupiter as well. This is the perfect day to enjoy a wedding and tonight that's what I'll be doing. I'll be celebrating the wedding of a dear friend!
1/09/11
The Moon is about to go into Scorpio. It is nicely connected with Neptune so you may find yourself feeling intensely romantic this evening. Being Friday night any activity involving film or dance could be a very good use of this energy. You are most likely to feel this way if you're a Scorpio, Pisces or Cancerian.
If you're a Taurus, Leo or Aquarius, you may feel stressed. It may be that you'd like to do something romantic or glamorous but can't. Sometimes we can't get exactly what we want and need to compromise. This may be one of those nights. If you can't get to the cinema as you'd like, watch a film at home. If you can't go dancing, do it at home. You get the idea. Failing that, a nice warm bath may be the thing to soothe those ruffled feathers.
31/08/11
The Moon is in Libra today. It is also very close to Saturn. You may be in a serious frame of mind when it comes to relationships. Communication is all imporant and you may find that you want to have a serious conversations in order to sort out any niggles that have been troubling you. With Saturn and the Moon in Libra, you can look at it as an opportunity to have a serious conversation in which both parties negotiate their needs amicably. You are especially likely to experience this if you are a Libra, Aries, Capricorn or Cancerian.
30/08/11
It's been a day for noticing things. The Moon being in Virgo, the emphasis has been on detail. I caught a little bit of the Wright Stuff this morning and Sally Bercow was part of the panel. For those who don't know her, Sally is married to the Speaker of the House of Commons. Her husband's position is, therefore, very prestigious and also vulnerable to public censure. Nevertheless, Sally Bercow has courted controversy by posing for a picture in a bed sheet and joining the Celebrity Big Brother House. What tickled me was that when asked why she posed in nothing but a sheet, she replied that she thought it would be a laugh. When asked why she had joined the Big Brother House, she replied that she thought it would be a laugh. The reason this tickled me is that she's a Sagittarius, a sign who really does enjoy a laugh.
Other thoughts, it appears that the sleek, stainless steel kitchens so popular in make-over programmes are a thing of the last decade. Funnily enough when writing about Neptune's entry into Pisces earlier this year, I explained that these kitchens emphasing technology and modernity were a product of Neptune in Aquarius and that in the next few years we'd be looking for something softer, more romantic and nostalgic. It appears that these differences are already being seen in the market, judging from what large kitchen providers are saying.
I seem too be in an expansive mood today, thinking deeply about many things. I think this may be the effect of the tightening connection between the Sun, Venus and Jupiter. Very nice indeed.
28/08/11
There may have been a dreamy feel to your day today. The Moon has been in Leo Opposite Neptune. This is the planet of illusion and escapism. If you haven't already, you should allow yourself to float in a bath- either literally or metaphorically. This means allowing yourself the space to get away from things that trouble you. Watch a film, take a walk, get away from it all. If you don't you might find it difficult to focus as you're in no mood do deal with reality. You may also find that you're feeling rather sensitive and find it difficult to keep things in perspective. So some time alone is a good thing. You are especially sensitive to this energy if you're a Leo, Aquarius, Taurus or Scorpio.
27/08/11
Mercury is now Direct. I can hear cheers all over! While teaching today, my students recounted their various Mercury Retrograde stories. Thinking back on the beginning of this one, it started in Virgo- an Earth sign. The first major disruption to transport of the London area, appears to have been caused by a land slide. Then came the riots which caused road closures, Mercury was then in Leo a fire sign. It's interesting that the nature of the disruption was mirrored by the element of the sign that Mercury was in.
The fact that Mercury is now direct is good news, but it does take a while for things to return to normal. We need to wait for the 10th of September for things to be truly settled. The reason for this is that we need to return to the same point that Mercury was at when it went Retrograde, this was 1 degree of Virgo and it will return to the point on the 10th.
The Moon is in Leo today. This is a good day for entertaining and generally having a fun time. Enjoy!
26/08/11
The Sun has been in Virgo since Wednesday and personally, I have felt a real shif of focus. September brings with it the back to work/ school feeling, even for those of us whose holidays have ended in early August or who haven't had holidays at all. We feel a shift in the angle of the Sun and become aware that hot, hazy days are probably behind us. Now we look forward to mellow, sunny and warm days. The intensity is gone.
Although we associate all of these feelings with September, actually they are very linked with the sing of Virgo, which brings me to the shift that I've felt. Not quite September but it feels like that for me. Having taken three weeks off in August, I was back working on the very day the Sun went into Virgo. I'm having a hard time remembering that it's still August, as the weather is distinctly unpleasant at the moment and I haven't really stopped! To give you a flavour of Virgo work and efficiency, yesterday I was up at 7. By 10, I'd made lunch for one of my Study groups that was meeting, cleaned 2 bathrooms and prepared for an interview. The interview was with Nicholas Parsons at 10am. By the time we finished at about 20 to 11, I had a quick breakfast in time for the arrival of my students. Teaching ended at 5 and light relief was brought by the visit of a friend not long after. I went to bed truly tired out!
The next few days promise to be equally full. Yes, the Sun is definately in Virgo!
22/08/11
Venus is now in Virgo. She is in a practical frame of mind. You may find that you're more critical or analytical about your relationships. You may decide that you only want to socialise with people who really have something positive to offer. For fun, you may turn to creative activities from dress-making to mosaics or simply cooking and gardening.
You are most likely to be affected in this way if you are a Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn, Cancerian or Scorpio. In fact the benefits of Venus for you will be great as she tends to bring gifts. Sometimes these are literally gifts brought by others, or nice gestures or kindness from strangers. However she acts, you will feel good.
21/08/11
It's a good thing that today is Sunday. This is because the Moon in Taurus is in a tense aspect with the Sun, Venus and Neptune. This setup is much more conducive to dreaming than working. If you've had a lovely day today, it's probably because you didn't have to be at work. If you were at work, chances are that your mind was busy elsewhere and that you were longing to be by the sea, in bed, in the cinema- anywhere but a place requiring concentration.
You were most likely to have felt this mood if you are a Taurus, Scorpio, Leo or Aquarius. But the day is not over yet, so make your evening a gentle and romantic one, whatever your day has been like.
20/08/11
I have had an amazing craving for chocolate since yesterday. Alas there is none in the house and I have had no time for shopping! It's just occurred to me that there is a reason for these cravings- the Moon is in Taurus. I seem to have a pattern for cravings when the Moon is in this sign. I shall just have to wait for tomorrow, when I'll venture out.
It has been a very Taurus day with a distinct emphasis on food and gardening. I've ordered 3 blueberry bushes and an apricot tree, slippery elm powder to make an antiseptic gel for the medicine cabinet, and some arabic gum powder in order to crystallise borage flowers. I've also made enough apple sauce to freeze for winter months. So all in all a very Taurus day.
Also today, the Sun is opposite Neptune. Neptune being the planet of dreams and romance, I've also felt like escaping from reality. All the time in which I've been cooking and doing my internet shopping, I've had DVDs of the BBC series, The Scarlet Pimpernel with Richard E Grant in the background. Swashbuckling adventure is fabulous for getting us out of the present.

The Moon has been in Taurus today and it is approaching Jupiter. That means that sensuality and fun are on the cards. So this evening, plan a gourmet meal and sensuality. Take care though as your eyes may be larger than your belly. You are most likely to benefit from this energy if you're an Earth Sign (Taurus, Capricorn, Virgo). If you're a Cancerian or Pisces, you too will benefit from this gentle and easy energy.
If, however, you're a Leo, Aquarius or Scorpio, you may be in for too much of a good time. You're more likely to get carried way and have the hangover or indigestion in the morning. You've been warned.

How are you doing through this Retrograde Mercury? It's been a funny time. Last week public transport and certain roads were affected by the riots. Last weekend, a bike race through London and Surrey also disrupted traffic to the point where people were ringing radio stations in despair. In fact a friend who visited on Sunday called us to say he had no idea when he would finally arrive because of the closed roads and traffic issues.
Yesterday my partner and I set off for Wisley Gardens, traffic on the A3 was terrible. For some reason, I suddenly thought to check my handbag to see whether I had my RHS member's card which allows us free entry. It is always in my bag, but as it happens, yesterday it was mysteriously absent. So we turned around and had tea in Richmond Park instead.
Also yesterday, an evelope arrived in the post. It was large and contained a note from a friend who had sent me a book. Sadly the only thing in the envelope was the note.
I know I'm not the only one being affected. I was listening to Woman's Hour on Radio 4 and during a studio interview, a mobile phone went off twice! I can imagine the interviewer's frustration! Classic Retrograde Mercury events.

The moon in Capricorn has once again brought a sense of a return to order and normality; that is if you can call courts sitting for 24 hours in order to process the number of people who have been charged, normal. Nevertheless the last twenty-four hours have been an excellent example of everything that Capricorn stands for. You only need to hear the language being used by all parties in the House today to recognise that change of a very Capricorn kind is in the air. The key words for Capricorn are structure and responsibility.
I was thinking last night that during the Lunar Eclipse, I was speaking on LBC radio, talking about the fact the Moon being in Sagittarius at the time indicated the possibility of fire and civil unrest. That was the day when teachers had announced that they would be going on strike, if I remember correctly. There had also been a significant fire in the West End, again, if memory serves me around the Aldwych, my old stamping ground when working for the BBC World Service. It's interesting how the Moon in Sagittarius brought both things together once again this month. Especially as London's Ascendant is in Sagittarius' opposite sign, Gemini. Actually there was even more fire represented as both the Sun, Venus and Mercury are in Leo too. This is a real indication of the need to remain cool in hard times.
Happily the Opposition between Mars and Pluto will begin to loosen tomorrow, so we should feel a collective release of tension soon. However, we still have a Full Moon to contend with so I think we need to get through this weekend. So with that in mind, let's be gentle with ourselves and others around us.
10/08/11
So the Moon in Capricorn has begun to claw back order as I thought it might in last night's blog. That is to say a change in Police tactics has been evident along with greater numbers of Police on our streets. Walking along the River in Richmond today, their presence was both welcome and reassuring. Water Canons are now ready to be used if necessary. Some might say too late. For my part, I'm glad they're there, just in case.
However, a new kind of tension is also in evidence. Frustrated and angered by the slow Police response in the first days of the riots and in particular on Monday night, many members of the public have begun to set up vigilante groups. If I were in government, this would worry me as much as the riots themselves. Not because the people involved are in any way criminal. They are just normal people anxious to protect themselves, their businesses and their communities. The reason I would be worried is twofold. The first and most important is that it indicates the deep lack of faith in the Police's ability to protect the public. This in itself is a deep source of worry. Of course the second reason, is that the potential for this to erupt into street battles with the Police stuck in the middle is high. My words last week emphasising the need to keep cool and control the deep desire to react to mounting tension, have turned out to be only too true.
Before becoming Prime Minister, David Cameron spoke of Britain as a broken society. He was criticised for being too negative. I think many of us, even those who previously disagreed, would agree with him today. Watching some adults being interviewed in Manchester today, I was struck by two voices. One of a man in his early thirties, inciting the riots to continue. The second of a woman, also around her thirties, who also thought she could see why the rioters would want to do what they were doing. It was obvious that she was fully in sympathy with them.
So here we are watching new layers of tension developing as the Mars tension with Uranus the planet of revolution is at its peak and Opposite the Moon. Soon it's Opposition to Pluto will tightened too. And this in the lead up to a Full Moon. It's an odd thing, being an Astrologer. Sometimes we can see the trouble coming but it's hard to know exactly how it will manifest. When I was last on Radio London with Jeni Barnett, I remember sitting in the waiting room and looking at this month and with my partner looking at this week and being worried. We both talked about this being a potentially dangerous week. We both saw the potential for violence. And yet, I've still felt incredulous and horrified. It seems that even when we see something coming, we still find it hard to comprehend it, when it arrives.
In the meantime, the financial crisis rumbles on with rumours of the possibility of France losing its triple A rating too. Do you rememember when life used to be boring?
9/08/11
Once again, so many thoughts and such intense feelings that it's hard to know where to begin. Tonight as I write, I'm watching a repeat of last night's problems on the streets of Manchester and Birmingham. When this is all over, what will haunt me is the pictures of police standing around seemingly powerless or unwilling to challenge those engaged in arson and looting on London's streets. That's of course when they were actually present, in many cases there were reports of people waiting for two hours before anyone turned up.
I wish I could say that I'm surprised. Sadly I am not. Not just because I am an Astrologer, but because of personal experience, of times in the last 6 years when I have had need of the police and found them to be wanting. At one point six years ago, a car was set on fire virtually outside my house. Lest you should think that I'm in a gritty inner London, Borough, I am not. I'm in a leafy and otherwise peaceful area on the edge of London. When we were experiencing very frightening threats to our peace of mind, personal safety and property, we were often treated by the police as a nuisance. It took the combined efforts of our community to actually get the police to be more proactive in their response to what was happening on our doorsteps. Heated community meetings ensued and finally we were assured that they would come when they were called and deal with disorder.
I write about my experience 6 years ago because, our experience is not unusual. This is relevant because what we have seen in the last three nights is exactly what we experienced 6 years ago but significantly magnified. It is relevant because it is symptomatic of what has been happening since our Police Force became a Police Service. Anger aimed at Politcians today was palpable. Londoners felt under seige. This was not a normal protest gone wrong this is lawlessness! Normal police tactics for dealing with protests should not apply.
I am in no way blaming the Police, I am saying that the change to our Policing has been happening for a number of years and that this is the outcome of these changes. This is also symptomatic of the difficulties faced by our society. I was a teacher for 13 years. During that time, I always worked in difficult and deprived areas of London. When I first started teaching, I thought nothing of picking up a 5 year old if necessary when they were in the middle of a tantrum and taking him to the head teacher. By the time I left teaching, I had to think twice about reprimanding a child. I was often threated by parents who believed their darlings could do no wrong, and who hated teachers and society.
So when this is over, these are the questions we need to be asking. How did we arrive at a point where we have a number of people in our midst who hate everything that society represents? How did we allow so many of our children to fail to be socialised? What is law and order? Do we want it? These are far deeper questions, well beyond just stating that we are dealing with economic deprivation. We are instead dealing with emotional deprivation. This I saw first hand, time and time again.
This is the wake up call and it began with Pluto's entry into the sign of Capricorn. This is the sign of government and social structure. Last night, the Moon was in the sign of Sagittarius, a fire sign and also the sign associated with Law and the philosophical concepts that lead to the writing of Laws. As already stated, the Opposition between Mars and Pluto along with the tension with Uranus has made this moment in time, the trigger for the asking of these specific questions. With the Moon entering Capricorn this evening, things can go two ways. Either order will be restored, or the fact that the Moon will be with Pluto, Opposite Mars and also involved in a tense aspect with Uranus could mean that as Police become more proactive, more violence will ensue. I hope that it is not so, for there could be another interpretation.
The next level of tension could be what we have already seen today. The anger of law abiding people towards the authorities who let them down. Capricorn as I've said is after all the sign of government.
8/08/11
When I last wrote, on Saturday night, the focus was the economic situation. Looking a the Scorpio Moon in a tense aspect to the Sun in Leo, I also tweeted that we were in for intense emotions. Within hours I was hearing about the riots in north London. Sadly as I write this, I'm watching a building in Peckham on fire and further rioting in Hackney. News is coming in from trouble in Birmingham and a shooting incident in Leeds.
This is another version of the tightening tension which I've been writing about. Mars in Cancer is coming towards an opposition to the UK's Sun. It does so while also coming to an opposition to Pluto. Pluto is the planet associated with gangs and mobs. Both Mars and Pluto are in a tense set up with Uranus, the planet of rebellion. Mars is the planet of anger and conflict. You can see why the cocktail is so volatile. The strange thing is that there seems to be no direct political motive behind this. The initial protest against the shooting of a man by police has been completely lost amongst the random violence.
However, there is something to think about here. Outer planets often indicate a collective mood. There is a lot of frustration and anger in wider society due to the uncertainty of the economic situation. Although this group does not seem to have a political direction, they seem to be the conduits through which these wider feelings are being played out, albeit unconciously.
There is also another matter to consider. Uranus is in the sign of Aries. When it entered this sign back in the spring, I spoke of the revolutionary changes that were happening to the Police. Now we see another layer developing. As we watch our Police taking a rather soft approach in dealing with this public disorder, there are questions being asked about what kind of policing we want as a society. Questions about why water canons are not being used, and why it is that Police took so long to respond to the developing situation on Saturday. These are important questions, and just like with the economic situation, the temptation to react quickly is great. Over the next few days as the tension mounts, the need to keep cool will become ever more important.
On a more personal note, if you are a Cardinal sign ( Capricorn, Cancer, Aries or Libra) you will also find yourself feeling tense. If you can, defer making decisions until after the weekend so that you are not just reacting to mounting tension.
6/08/11
Earth signs deal with reality. When Pluto entered Capricorn we had the first banking crisis. The truth about the period of financial gambling enjoyed whilst Pluto was in the sign of Sagittarius (the sign of gambling), suddenly was revealed. The party was over and a reality check was needed. Ever since then, we have kidded ourselves that the worst is over and that all will be well. Yet, sticking plasters over ecomonies rarely ever work. Austerity a very Capricorn word, is being seen as the solution. Over-spending is not the Capricorn way. With Mercury Retrograde in the practical Earth sign of Virgo, another reality check was due.
Sadly there are arguments for and against austerity measures. Until now, America appears to have been resisting seriously cutting the deficit, in the hope that they could thus stimulate growth in the economy. It is interesting that the US's Sun, Mercury, Venus and Jupiter are in Cancer, Capricorn's opposite sign. Not only is this indicative of the fact that America is in for a particularly difficult few years, but it also explains why austerity is not being embraced as readily as in the UK (a Capricorn country).
Whatever the rights or wrongs of the measures so far adopted to deal with the current crisis, the loss of America's triple A rating feels shocking. I never had much hope that they would hold on to it given the paralysis gripping the political establishment. Then last week when a deal was announced, I thought just maybe... until I checked the planetary set up. Mars is currently travelling through Cancer and although this would normally indicate positive energy, it is being challenged by Pluto and Uranus. The greatest tension will be felt on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of next week, espcially as the Moon will also be in Capricorn on Wednesday and Thursday. This will be touching on America's Jupiter. Optimism may be low. It is vital that people not over-react, yet the need for action may be palpable. Cool and wise heads will be very much needed.
More on Europe tomorrow.
5/08/11
Mars is in Cancer. Mars being the planet of conflict, during its stay in this sign, you need to take care to avoid conflict within your family. This is especially true if you're a cardinal sign (Capricorn, Aries, Libra). If you're a Cancerian, you are likely to find yourself putting a lot of your energy into your home and family. If you're a Scorpio or a Pisces, you may find your energy levels are higher during this period.
On a less personal level. This is a difficult time. You can already see that based on the current economic climate. It has been this way since Pluto entered Capricorn, now Mars is lining up to Oppose Pluto and both are going to be in a tense relationship with Uranus. This is an extremely volatile time, and things are likely to become more tense in the coming week as the Opposition and Square to Uranus tighten, indicating another pending crisis. Interestingly the current lack of confidence in the markets is due to America's economy ( America is a Cancerian country) and the crisis in the Euro Zone. The Euro's chart is Capricorn and the European countries in question all have cardinal signs being activated in their charts.
Over the next few days, I'll be looking at the countries in question in greater detail.
In the meantime, it's encouraging to know that our ecomnomy although very exposed due to its trade with the US and Eurozone, is showing greater stability at the moment. The silver lining under a very heavily cloudy sky.
4/08/11
Mercury is Retrograde and already the news is reflecting this. I woke to the news that many people are stranded abroad as their holiday company has gone bust. Others, now have had their holiday plans ruined.
It's never an easy time for travel or planning when Mercury is Retrograde. It will remain Retrograde until the 27th of this month. Until then, you will need a sense of humour. Communication may be tricky at times either due to misunderstandings or because of communication devices (phones, computers) behaving oddly.
Your plans may need to change at various times as either you or others change their minds. Sometimes, mishaps also play a part. It's a classic time for people to forget or lose keys, for example. Last time, I even heard of a phone being dropped down the toilet! It seems we behave in a more absent minded way. Our minds just seem to be elsewhere. Accidents are not uncommon during this time, precisely for this reason.
So, over the course of this month, you'll need to keep your wits about you and have a good sense of humour. Also remember, the good thing about changing plans is that it allows us to rethink and perhaps come up with creative solutions.
It's also a good time to review the past. You may find that people whom you haven't seen for a while get in touch, or you may do the same. Although this is not a great time to make decisions, it is a good time for reconsidering a course of action.
Mercury Retrograde brings out the Gremlins but it also forces us to stay sharp!
2/08/11
The Moon is still in Virgo. It's a good day to have a clear out and a tidy up. Efficiency is key. Actually preparing to go on holiday in the last couple of days, has been a lot easier than usual. It seemed easier to get organised and everything seems to have got done more smoothly than usual. Three cheers for Virgo!
1/08/11
The Moon is now in Virgo. It is very close to Mercury and both are well aligned with Mars. So this is a good day to get things done, especially if it involves communication. If you are an Earth sign (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) this is especially helpful for you.
However, because the Moon and Mercury are both opposite Neptune and Chiron, care should be taken today to not act too hastily. Emotions may be running high or there may just be confusion leading to difficulty in correctly interpreting situations. The possibility for misunderstandings is very high. This is especially true if you're a Virgo, Pisces, Gemini or Sagittarius. Try to keep things in perspective before you act.
31/07/11
The Moon in Leo is now opposite Neptune. You may find it difficult to your emotions under control this evening and tomorrow. It's possible that you could be over-reacting. You will need to keep things in perspective. Talk to a friend or perhaps listen to some soothing music. A good film can also provide a good means of escape. If you are a Leo, Scorpio, Aquarius or Taurus you may have been feeling especially sensitive today.
30/07/11
It's a very Leo day, the Sun, Moon and Venus are all in this warm and generous sign. So today, should be a nice day for most of us. With Jupiter involved, the greatest danger is that we'll all get carried away whilst having a good time. Actually, in London, the weather seems to lending a hand to this fun and holiday mood as summer has finally returned to us.
With Venus in Leo, Fire signs (Leo, Sagittarius and Aries) are in for a very social time. This is a great time to meet new people and perhaps even fall in love. This can be a very creative time too. Time spent at the theatre, cinema or enjoying sport will simply add to the fun mood.
If you're a Taurus, Scorpio or Aquarius, you may find that you need some time alone as you may not have the energy to keep up with all the socialising that you might like to be doing!
29/07/11
It's been a while since my last blog due to being overwhelmingly busy. Happily, normality is returning and here I am once more. The Sun has been in Leo since last weekend. Leos love to play and this is the time of year for doing just that. You may find that you're going on holiday or planning a holiday. If you're not having a break now, you may find that it's harder to concentrate on work at this time of year. The key is to build in as much recreation time as possible. This is the last half of the summer so you need to make the most of it! Have fun!
20/07/11
The Moon is now in Aries. You may get a sudden burst of energy, but the fact that it is in a tense aspect with Uranus and Pluto means that you may be bursting to rebel or tell someone what you really think. A more constructive use of this energy would be to do something a little bit different this evening.
19/07/11
If you are a Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini or Virgo, you may have found today to be challenging. The Moon and Mars (the Planet of conflict) were in a tense aspect. Actually Rupert Murdoch is a Pisces, and his son is a Sagittarius. Neither can be said to have had an easy day as they faced questioning at a Parliamentary Hearing. Rupert Murdoch was even attacked! Very Mars.
If you are a Cancerian or a Scorpio, you are likely to have had a much nicer day. The Sun and Venus are still close to each other and in harmony with the Moon. You should plan a social evening with either family or friends to make the most of this engergy.
18/07/11
It's been a funny day. Being my day off, I had planned to spend some time enjoying the summer sales, doing a bit of gardening and then heading off for the party at the Astrology Lodge this evening. But I woke up feeling very tired after three extremely hectic days so I decided shopping was out. Then came the rain, so gardening was out. Then feeling rather groggy, the party was ruled out too. Instead, I spent the afternoon watching The Fisher King- a very Piscean film with themes of rescuing, redemption and madness. In fact films belong to the realm of Pisces too. So all in all, I had a very Piscean day, on a day when the Moon went into Pisces.
17/07/11
Today the Moon in Aquarius has been in a nice link with Mars. Given that Mars is in Gemini (the sign of communication), it was a good day to be on BBC Radio London with the delightful Jeni Barnett. The Mars energy was really evident as the calls came in so fast, that I hardly had time to think. It was nice to be with an Aries (Mars' sign) to make the most of this great energy.
Energy is the word of the day as I started my day early to prepare for the arrival of my students later in the day, rushed off to the radio studio and then raced to get home. I was getting out of the car as they arrived!
We had a lovely day working through more Astrological studies, but now I feel quite tired. I'm running out of energy, just as the Moon is pulling away from its link to Mars.
16/07/11
The Moon has been in Aquarius today. Aquarius is a sign associated with groups and associations. Today I've been working with the Woking Astrology group. The Moon is also linked with Jupiter. Jupiter, our largest planet things big. And this was a workshop on Jupiter with a rather large group. I couldn't have chosen a better date. It was a wonderful and inspiring day.
15/07/11
The Moon was full this morning, (UKTime 07:39). That means it's now Waning. Actually you might find that the tention of the build up was higher than the peak. Although still powerful, today should be a bit easier than the last couple for Capricorns, Librans, Cancerians and Aries. Plan your weekend and do something extra nice!
On another note, there is more strife in the area of communications today. BBC journalists are on strike. Mars in Gemini is certainly bringing up conflict in Gemini's domain.
14/07/11
Many of you Cardinal signs are saying that you're having a difficult time. Hang in there because today the Moon is still close to Pluto, although it is moving away. However it is in a tense aspect to Venus and Saturn. Relationships may be affected, or it may just be that you want some light relief in the form of some time off and can't get it. You'd rather be resting but need to be working, that kind of thing. The link with Saturn might also mean that you're not getting as much done as you hoped. Although frustrating, just try to slow down. Today is no day to rush.
On another note, the Capricorn is a sign associated with accounting and I finally got the chance to do my own accounting today. This is something, I've been too busy to do for the last couple of months and it was bugging me. Now it's done.
On the subject of accounting. Italy has been in the news this week, with fears mounting over their economy sliding in the way of Italy, Greece, Ireland and Portugal. A look at Italy's chart reveals that Uranus has been in a tense aspect with their Mercury (planet linked with trade) in the 8th House (linked with debt, insurance, etc.) As Uranus travels back towards Mercury, this could intensify before the year is out, especially as Saturn will also be in a tense link to Venus and itself in the same 8th House.
The Moon is now Waxing. It is on its way to becoming full when it reaches Scorpio. You will notice it slowly growing over the next week and a half. At the moment, you might be able to see it setting soon after sunset, so just look West to find it. Waxing Moons are less favourable for taking action. They are best used to plan, we may be sowing seeds now for what we want to do later. Then things come to fruition, or reach a crisis at the peak (when it's Full) after which is a better time to act.
Today it's in the sign of Gemini. This is a sociable sign and you may find that you are in the mood to chat. If you have phone calls or emails that you've been putting off, now is the right time to be dealing with them.
3/05/11
Taurus is a sign associated with music. Some of you have been telling me that over the last 24 hours, you've felt like dancing. Well, funnily enough, last night before heading for bed, my partner too felt the need for music. So we watched one of our Alison Krauss DVs and were lulled into feeling relaxed. Just right before going to bed.
Taurus is a gentle sign and perhaps you were more in the mood to be lazy than get back to work today. So this evening, plan a delicious meal, turn on your sterio and just let yourself be. This is Taurus' lesson: to enjoy life, you need to stop occasionally and smell the roses.
2/05/11
There seems to be a pattern for me with the Moon in Taurus. This is the third month in which I've noticed a slight obsession with food. Anyone who knows this sign, would not be surprised, but here is the tally so far. In March, I became obsessed with pancakes (there was left over batter in the fridge from Pancake Tuesday), last month it was chocolate brownies which I'd reserved for my students. So today, it was couscous. Thankfully, a healthier option than the last two months. It too was in the fridge, after having cooked too much of it yesterday for my students' lunch. Cooked in passata and with mint from the garden, it is delicious! The thing is that although it's healthy, I wasn't that hungry while I was craving it! I think the solution will have to be an empty fridge while the Moon is in Taurus!
Happily, the extra calories acquired due to cravings, were used up in other Taurean activities. Walking in bluebell woods again today was a delight. Mind you, being in woods today was also wonderful as the trees provided a much needed windbreak! Walking in the open fields was exhausting! The bluebells are beginning to fade sadly, but the fragrance is still strong and so even theough they are fading and the wind was threatening to bring branches down over our heads, it was all rather heavenly!
Now I'm being promised a delicious spaghetti bolognese! More temptation if there are to be leftovers in the fridge tomorrow. Does that mean that I should allow myself to overindulge tonight?
1/05/11
Yesterday I warned that Aries, Libra, Capricorn and Cancer may be finding the Moon in Aries difficult. Well today one of my students, was unwell. She's a Cancerian, with the Moon and Ascendant in Libra. This is a good example of what I meant. So if you are one of these signs, take it easy tonight. Tomorrow morning around 7 it will be all change as we herald the Moon in Taurus. You may not see much of the Moon now. It is still Waning and nearly New. Of course, when it goes into Taurus, it will be in the same sign as the Sun. This means that the Moon is getting ever closer to the Sun. When it is exactly in the same part of the sky as the Sun, it is a New Moon. At this point we can't see the Moon, it is with the Sun. On your calendar, the New Moon is represented by a black circle.
30/04/11
It's been a funny month. The warmest and sunniest April ever, as far as I'm concerned. A very late Easter combined with a Royal Wedding and May day. This has meant that we've had two very long weekends, two weeks running. This along with the weather accounts for all the smiling faces around me, whenever I go out. Everyone seems to be having a good time.
This high, positive energy is totally in line with what we'd expect from Aries, and let me remind you that there is a lot of activity around the sign of Aries. Last night, the Moon joined Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Uranus in this sunny but at times overly enthusiastic sign. So spare a thought for Libras, Cancerians and Capricorns. This energy is very challenging for them.
If you are an Aries and you seem immune to the upbeat energy in your sign, that will be because Saturn is opposite Aries in the sign of Libra. It's also possible that Pluto is providing challenges from its corner in Capricorn.
Whatever your sign, while the Moon is in Aries, you may find that you have more energy than usual. Just take care that high spirits and strong desires to have things your way don't lead to arguments! With Saturn being opposite the Moon tonight, a little restraint and patience may go a long way.
28/04/11
Today is one of those days where I have so much to say that knowing where to begin has been a challenge. But I think I'll start with the fact that the Sun is in Taurus and that we are two days away from May Day. This is traditionally a time to celebrate the coming of summer. Winter is truly behind us and we are well on the way to the Summer Solstice. So this is a time of renewal and fertility, the perfect time for a wedding.
Renewal and stability, two key words for Taurus, also seem to be especially relevant for today's Royal Wedding. When you strip away the romance of the occasion and the Moon in Pisces, this is what it's all about. That's not to say that romance is unimportant, it is and both the Sun and Moon's position today symbolise that. It's just that a marriage means dealing with the mundane aspects of life and so it needs to have a practical function too. It also needs to provide stability. Weddings serve the function of integrating a couple into the community, and this couple's community is global.
All around the wedding there were reminders of the need for stability and longevity, not least of which were the beautiful trees in Westminster Abbey. This was Kate's (Catherine's) choice. Knowing that she is a Capricorn, I was not at all surprised that they should have been chosen to soften the Abbey. There seems to be a special link between Capricorns and trees. A very famous Capricorn J.R. R. Tolkein had them at the centre of his masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings. To him their destruction symbolised the epitome of death and evil. The return of the King, sees Aaragorn planting a tree. This resonates totally with this country. As a culture, we love trees. Protests abound if much loved trees are threatened in any way. And this is a Capricorn country.
That brings me to Kate's chart. She is a Capricorn with the Moon in Cancer. This country is a Capricorn country with the Moon in Cancer. Essentially, she is reflecting this country's energy and expressing something of its heart. The dress was totally a Capricorn's design. Elegant, subtle. In fact she is often described in very Capricorn language- down to earth, grounded, feet on the ground, timeless, classic, elegant.
She has also come into her public role whilst Pluto is in Capricorn. Pluto is about death, resurrection, renewal. We are back where we started. This is significant because Pluto's entry into Capricorn in 2007 heralded great change- the virtual collapse of the financial markets. In this country we have seen huge political scandal over the abuse of tax payers' money and there is much that is bleak. Change is on the cards. But painful though this may be, I remain hopeful that this country will rise out of the ashes, renewed and strong.
That is what this Wedding is tapping into. The need for renewal, the need for hope that spring always follows winter and a guarantee for the future. It is what all weddings are about. But this one is a National Wedding. For all the global interest, those who filled the streets of London, and are enjoying street and private parties tonight are partaking in a national event. Westminster Abbey is testament to that. It is dripping with history and each time I have visited, I have felt something akin to electricity. I'm not usually sensitive to atmospheres but I've felt the currents of history coursing through me each time I've been there.
The chart of 11am this morning, is something that I touched on when I was on Jeni Barnett's show a few weeks ago. It is totally symbolic of the occasion. Leo is rising. Leo is the sign that is associated with Royalty, pomp and circumstance. The Sun, Jupiter, Mars, Mercury and Venus were all in the 10th House. This is a most public house and this was a most public event! The Moon was in Pisces in the 9th House. The 9th House is a House associated with religion, and belief. If the 7th house is the House of marriage, the 9th is the House of Weddings because this is where we are combining a union of social consequence with solemn vows taken before God. Incidentally, Pisces is also linked with religion and mysticism.
So far so good, but there is a fly in the ointment. Saturn is opposite Venus and Mercury. I am heartened that Venus and Mercury are moving away from this opposition. But nevertheless, there is a warning that they must not let duty crush love and affection. Pluto is more worrying, being square to Venus. But happily, Venus is also separating from Pluto's grip. I would suggest that they always communicate and not allow anything unpleasant to fester. This way their love will be continually renewed and the challenges of tomorrow will be faced with strength and courage needed to remain true to their vows. In the meantime, we rejoice and look forward to the future.

Easter brings with it lots of chocolate and with the Royal Wedding and all the parties going on, we may find ourselves feeling a little sluggish. So you may be thinking about detoxing. While the Moon is Waning is a good time to do this. So nettle tea is just the thing and at this time of year, the leaves are young and just right for picking.
Wedding fever is in the air as the Royal couple prepare for their big day tomorrow. The romance of the occasion has captured the imagination of many. In the bank today, two women were chatting. One of them is going home to her mother's in Kent tomorrow where a champagne breakfast with scrambled eggs will be waiting for her. All will be in their best attire, complete with hats. She's not the only one. The mood is completely in synch with the Moon in Pisces. That's where the Moon will still be tomorrow. May the romance last through all their married lives.
26/04/11
After a very long weekend with the bonus glorious weather, it was with great reluctance that many people returned to work today. Many will have felt somewhat rebellious with the Moon in Aquarius. I suggest that you try to do something that allows you to feel free this evening.
On the theme of rebellion, things are getting more serious in Syria. Saturn is currently sitting on their Ascendant and squaring the Midheaven. The Midheaven is the cusp of the 10th House which in Mundane Astrology (Astrology about world events), is about government and the public. This is obviously mirroring the actual events we're hearing on the news. There are no winners here. Jupiter is encouraging people to take on the government to fight for freedom. The government is feeling under pressure and responding with force. Rebels may be overestimating their chances and the goverment may be overestimating the threat of its enemies, or the success of repression. The thing about Jupiter is that it exaggerates and when it's in a tense relationship in a chart, it means that mistakes in judgement are very likely. Saturn's placing indicates, that nothing is going to be easy here.
Similar aspects were operating in Lybia's chart at the start of the uprising there. We can see how the enthusiasm of what had happened in Tunisia and Egypt swept across the region making defeat seem impossible. A big misjudgement also reflected by Jupiter's inflation of expectations. We can only pray that in time these wounds may be healed.

Good Fridays are usually baking days for me. Hot Cross buns, Simnel cake and Portuguese Easter Bread. This Good Friday, I traded baking for an appearance with the lovely Jeni Barnett on her show to talk about biodynamics. It was great fun and I loved answering all the calls.
However, the result was, lots of chocolate for Easter Sunday but no cakes, buns or bread. So today was the day. A Waning Moon in Aquarius is just right for bread making. Hot Cross buns can be bought but Portugues Easter Bread, only I make. I've also improved on the traditional recipe. Instead of hard boiled eggs to decorate, I use mini chocolate eggs. Now Easter is complete!
24/04/11
There is no better way to celebrate the Sun's entry into Taurus than Easter Sunday in a bluebell wood in beautiful sunshine! I hope your Easter has been equally magical!
23/04/11
Mercury is now stationary (standing still) in readyness to turn direct tomorrow. It didn't mean that today was smooth though. Group video calls on skype which worked smoothly and without any hitches previously, proved to be an unmitigated disaster today. But at least my computer didn't crash as it did earlier in the week when I was doing a tutorial on skype. Twice it crashed during a one and a half hour tutorial. No apparent reason.
Should you be breathing a sigh of relief over its resumption of forward motion tomorrow, beware. When it turns direct things improve but it takes a while for things to return to normal. This is because it needs to return to the same place where it was when it turned retrograde. That is called the release point and will happen on the 11th of May.
I think the odd weather we've all been having may change too. I hear that parts of Southern Europe have been suffering a deluge during this period and I know that Eastern North America is firmly in winter's grip still. Meanwhile, although very pleasant Northern Europe seems to have skipped spring and jumped to August. I think we may find that with Mercury turning direct, things may return to normal. So some will breathe a sigh of relief, but we in the UK will simply sigh whistfully!
Happy Easter Everyone!!!!
22/04/11
Venus entered the sign of Aries yesterday. This lady is in the mood for competition, enterprise, physical activity and yes, her thoughts may well be lusty! Funnily enough, listening to Radio 4 yesterday, there was a feature about the rise in popularity of women's football in the UK. I thought that this was just the right tone to welcome Venus in the the sportiest of signs!
The Moon is now in Capricorn, the sign associated with nails, bones and skin. So girls, this weekend is perfect for manicures and skin treatments. Whether you're male or female though, with the Sun being so hot at the moment, make sure that you remember your sun tan lotion. Your skin may be extra sensitive during this weekend.
21/04/11
The Sun is now in the sign of Taurus. This is a nice stable energy. Unusually we are enjoying Easter with the Sun in this sign. It is usually earlier when the Sun is in Aries. Here in the UK, we are also being treated to an extra holiday because of the Royal Wedding next weekend.
This is very appropriate for Taurus. Like Aries, this sign enjoys new life. Although its enthusiasm and energy are more likely to be expressed through sensuality. Taurus is known for its love of food and a holiday in which chocolate features rather highly is very appropriate. Easter is also known for being the biggest gardening and DIY weekend of the year. People visit the garden centres to get their gardens into shape for the summer. Gardening is another favourite Taurus pass time. And while we're on the subject of shops, retailers may find that combined with the optimism of the lovely weather, people will be very happy to shop. So to make the most of this weekend and the Sun's stay in Taurus- smell the flowers, sip that wine or hot chocolate a little more slowly and enjoy all that life has to offer!

Sometimes, the symbolic meaning of my experiences does not actually become clear to me immediately. Being busy and moving on to other things, means that it's when I'm in bed that I process the events of the day and make links that are obvious but that I was too busy to make earlier in the day.
Working at weekends, it means that Mondays and Tuesdays are my days off. Very occasionally, someone finds it difficult to make an appointment on other days and I'll make an exception and do a reading on one of my days off. Yesterday was just such a day. I fitted someone in and then had the rest of the day to myself. While I was in bed, reflecting on the day, I realised that actually that reading had all the hallmarks of a Moon in Scorpio. Having written on Monday about Scorpio and the libido, I then realised that the only reading I did in those two days was very much focused on sex!
Today is a very different Moon. It's in Sagittarius and already I can see the synchronicity. Listening to Radio 4 at 9am- Midweek with Libby Purves two of the three interviews I heard were very Sagittarian.
Sagittarius is the sign of the traveller. It is considered to be a lucky sign and indeed a Sagittarius' optimism means that they often feel lucky where others might not. For this reason they thrive on risk and adventure. This is the sign of the gambler. But there is another side to this sign. The part of the Centaur that is human is aiming high. So this is symbolic of aspiration and man's quest for knowledge and meaning. For this reason, Sagittarius is also associated with religion.
The first guest I heard on the programme this morning is a retired footballer who became a musician and invented a percussion instrument. This may not be particularly Sagittarian but when asked why when he stopped playing football, he hadn't gone down the route of becoming a trainer or coach; he stated that he felt that there had to be more to life than the small world of football. In other words, he wanted to expand his horizons a theme very in the spirit of Sagittarius.
The next guest was a writer who proceeded to talk about his search for enlightement through his travels to Algeria and his time with Sufi Mystics. He went on to explain his interest in Islam- So searching for enlightement and meaning by looking into religion through travel- very Sagittarius.
The third guest was an ex-bookie who was discussing his book ,
Winning It Back- the autobiography of Britain's Biggest Gambler. Need I say more? I didn't hear the rest of the programme, but knowing where the Moon is today, it did make me smile!
19/04/11
The Moon is now waning. It doesn't meant that if you are a Taurus, Aquarius or Leo that you had a brilliant day. Take heart, tomorrow it will no longer be in Scorpio. If you've had a hard day and are not one of these fixed signs, it may be that your Moon is in one of these signs.
Waning Moons mean action. All those plans you've been making- now is the time to act. Waning Moons mean that there is less erratic emotional energy so it's easier to be calm and make good decisions and act on them. Enjoy!!!
18/04/11
The Moon is in Scorpio today and will remain there through tomorrow too. Scorpio is a sign associated with sex and regeneration. If you feel your libido is stronger today, don't be surprised as the Moon's energy is still strong. So plan for a passionate evening otherwise frustration can turn to aggression, especially as that other lusty sign- Aries is so prominent in the heavens at the moment. This is one day when that old '60's slogan "make love not war" really applies!
If you are a Taurus, Aquarius or Leo, you may have had a difficult or emotional day. Take things easy this evening. There is one more day to get through and then things will be better for you.
17/04/11
How are you doing in the lead up to the Full Moon? It has now separated from Saturn and has been opposite Jupiter. Perhaps you felt like doing more than you could or should? Or maybe your enthusiasm has left you feeling tired. Hopefully your bank account hasn't suffered. Jupiter tends to exaggerate and when opposite the Moon, it means that our judgement can be compromised. A day in which our eyes might be bigger than our bellies or bank accounts.
I came across a report the other day that talked about the Irish economy and it prompted me to have a look at Ireland's chart. The Moon is at one degree Capricorn. So it made sense. Pluto's entry into Capricorn in 2008 heralded the banking crisis. Any country with a part of their chart at an early degree of Capricorn, had to deal with Pluto, and Saturn in the last three years. Now with Uranus' entry into Aries, the same spot is being sensitised again. Shockwaves take a long time to calm down.
Thoughts on the Moon aside, I'm looking forward to Mercury turning direct next weekend. But it does not mean that all will be normal immediately. More on that next weekend.
In the meantime, I hope you have a restful evening. Remember not to take things too seriously. We are still in the lead up to the Full Moon.
16/04/11
The Full Moon is nearly upon us. Today and tomorrow the energy becomes more intense in the build up to its peak in the early hours of Monday morning. It is in Libra and if the sky is clear enough later, you will be able to see Saturn quite close to it. This has the potential to be a stressful evening as the Moon, sitting with Saturn are in a tense position in relation to Pluto. There may be a lot of repressed anger to come out this evening, particularly in the area of relationships. If you've been feeling angry or frustrated with your partner or friends, it's better to talk things out. If you don't, you may find that you're getting into an argument either because you've provoked it indirectly or because you blow up at something seemingly innocuous but which provides the opportunity to vent your anger. Of course this could apply to your partner instead of you.
If you are a Libra, Aries, Capricorn or Cancerian, this could be a challenging Full Moon. It's best to take things easy. If you can't discuss any problems that you might have, then try to take advantage of the fact that it's the weekend and treat yourself to extra rest, or something really pleasant.
15/04/11
Yesterday, was meant to be a day off as I'm having a mini holiday. But true to Virgo a lot got done. Even my partner ended up clearing out the part of my allotment that had yet to be be planted. Today I'm under no illusions as to the kind of day I'll have. It's all about work.
14/04/11
The Moon is in Virgo. This is the working Moon. Time to get organised, have a clear out, maybe think about how to improve your health in the future. Word of warning though, don't plan too much. Mercury is still retrograde which means there may be a limit to what can be achieved in one day! Also with the Moon really waxing, the build up to the full Moon could mean that you feel a bit frazzled more easily. This is especially true if you are a Virgo, Pisces, Gemini or Sagittarius.
You have tomorrow too, so no need to get it all done in one day.
13/04/11
Mercury Retrograde has its comic value as well as being a nuisance. What follow are the events of the last three days. On Monday, I wrote about a trip to Windsor. It was in Windsor that we experienced Retrograde Mercury's humour. We were seduced by the pastries in the window of a wonderful patisserie. We placed our order at the counter as we were instructed and had a seat in the cafe area at the back. What followed was confusion worthy of a farce. The waitresses proceded to mix up every order they were given. We were delivered the wrong drinks and the wrong food. Our food was delivered to the wrong table, and we then noticed that new people joining us had exactly the same experience. It didn't help that the waitresses barely spoke English.
You may remember that in my blog on Friday
8/04/11 , I wrote about a wine delivery that had been refused, being redelivered under the confused guise of a gift. My partner, who had made the order in the first place, duly complained and heard nothing in the way of a reply. Yesterday, upon returning home and walking up to our door, we were called by a man in an unlabled white van and wearing no uniform. All we heard was the word 'wine'. Having failed to assert myself in the previous encounter I disappeared into the kitchen to let my partner deal with the saga. A moment later, my partner says, 'can you come out. He doesn't speak English and I think he may be Spanish,' Our delivery man turned out to be Brasilian, which made communication easy as I speak Portuguese. But nevertheless, it was difficult to fathom out why he was there, as he barely seemed to know. He distinctly reminded me of Manuel from Fawlty Towers and I'm sure this must have been his first job as he was incapable of using the electronic device where we were meant to sign. He had to call his boss, who thankfully spoke Brasilian to instruct him in what to do. The experience filled me with sympathy and confusion. I felt for him, but wondered how it was possible that his employers could have given him such poor training, and what would have happened had I not spoken his language. Not to mention the fact that no one told us to expect the wine to be collected again!!
Well today the comedy continued. I've taken a few days off this week in lieu of having had no time off for the last two. So today, my partner and I decided to go out to lunch in one of our favourite haunts in Chertsey. Very fitting for a Moon in Leo, I thought. A bit of lazyness. No cooking or washing up for us. Lunch arrived significantly late, they forgot our dessert and then forgot to charge us for part of the meal. Although there were no language issues today, confusion continued to reign.
How has your day been?
12/04/11
The Moon is now in Leo. This should be a relief for those of you who felt stressed while the Moon was in Cancer. There was a silver lining for me while it was in Cancer. I spent the afternoon walking along the river. The natural world, however, was behaving very emotionally.
The Canada geese were in an absolute frenzy!! I've never seen them so active, aggressive or noisy!
Today though, the theme should be fun. Leo is a sign that likes a good time. So make sure that you plan some fun social activities for the evening to make the most of this sunny energy!
11/04/11
The Moon is in Cancer today and the mood is much more emotional. You may find yourself feeling more sensitive or vulnerable today. Be gentle with yourself. A comforting film after work, or a comforting meal will be just the thing. You may also find that being with loved ones is just right.
9/04/11
Have you been feeling undecided? With the Moon in Gemini, you might have found your mind changing as to what you want. Your mood might have been changing as you took into account new thoughts, new ideas. Well tomorrow, you may find it easier to decide what you want as the Moon will move into Cancer.
On the news the Aries mood of anger and lashing out continues as yesterday we heard about the shooting of a Royal Naval Officer on board our flagship nuclear submarine . Another Officer also shot is still in hospital. What was impressive was the way that Southampton City Councill Leader Royston Smith, who was visitting the submarine, wrestled with the gunman. This I thought reflects the positive side of Aries- the courage and ability to take risks to fight to defend others.
Mercury Retrograde continues to play havoc. Today one of my students told me she'd dropped her phone down the toilet last night, while this morning my partner realised he couldn't get into his computer because of a trojan. That's all cleared now, but it took ages and is certainly not what he expected to be doing on a Saturday morning. I'm hoping the gremlins stay away while I'm on BBC Radio London tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed.
8/04/11
The government, it seems are rethinking their proposed changes to the NHS. Mercury being retrograde is a good time to be rethinking plans that are not working. With the Moon still in Gemini, this weekend may be a good time revisit old ideas that have been put aside, or meeting up with old friends whom you haven't seen for a while. It's also a good time to write that letter you've been putting off, or generally deal with any communication that you've been neglecting.
I've also noticed that the Moon has been Square Venus in Pisces today, a fact which explains a little incident. Contact with Venus is usually a good thing. She often brings gifts and pleasure. However, in Pisces she could be tricky and Squares mean tention. Well today, I answered the door to a delivery van. It was a wine order that had been made and cancelled by my partner earlier in the week. A delivery attempt had been made two days ago and I refused it as the order had been cancelled. I ticked correct box on the form and signed the refusal slip. To my great surprise, the wine was redelivered today! Once again I refused but was told that it was a gift. Confused, I refused four times, but the insistant delivery man persisted that it was a gift. Confused, and somewhat coerced I accepted the delivery. My partner tells me that I have been duped. The moral of this story is Venus' gifts may not always be what they seem. I'm feeling foolish and a little bit wiser.
7/04/11
The Moon is now in Gemini and what has stood out for me today is the earthquake in Japan.
It is exactly a lunar month since the first devastating earthquake. This means that the Moon was in Gemini on the 11th of March when it happened. But there is another salient fact and that is that Japan's Moon is also in Gemini. The fact that Japan's Ascendant is 0 degrees Capricorn is also significant because Uranus was just coming up to a very tense position with Japan's Ascendant on the day of the first earthquake. I think we need to watch this while Uranus is at 0 degrees Aries. This is obviously a very sensitive time and we need to be sending healing energy to the Japanese people who are showing outstanding dignity in dealing with catastrophe.
On a more personal note, you may find that you are feeling more chatty than usual or perhaps find that over the next couple of days you have more opportunities to interact with others.
My partner found himself working on his car at the front of the house today and I'm sure he was enjoying himself not just because of the weather but because of all the chatting that was going on with neighbours. He certainly had a very Gemini day. If you are a Gemini, a Libra or an Aquarius, you are probably quite chatty anyway, but while the Moon is in Gemini, you may find that you have more opportunities to be social.
6/04/11
I'm sure you've noticed on the news more mentions of potential plane crashes- I've heard three so far, as well as a major car accident earlier this week. These are all to do with travel so you can see that things do not run smoothly when Mercury is Retrograde. There may have been technical problems but human error is also a factor. Many of us are tired and stressed while Mercury is retrograde ans so more likely to make mistakes. Add to that the technical hitches!!! For my part, I've found creating new pages on my website mindnumbingly frustrating and even facebook has thrown a few curve balls!!
The Moon is still in Taurus. Last month, I remember writing about how the batter left over from Pancake Tuesday was calling me loudly from the fridge. Sadly I think the Moon in Taurus is having this effect on me again. This time, it's chocolate brownies. I made them on Monday night when a friend came to dinner and I froze some for my students coming at the weekend... this was very sensible but.... they are calling me. I think to defrost one will leave enough for them on Saturday!
The weather is glorious and I hope you are having a chance to enjoy it. Last night, I watched lambing live. The series began when the Moon was still in Aries- most appropriate. But Taurus revels in new life too, so it felt warm to see all the lovely lambs being born and some bottle fed. I think it will be on again tonight so I hope you can catch it. It's charming! Other than that, I hope you can get the chance to indulge and pamper!
5/04/11
Reflecting on the Moon in Aries yesterday, I realised that accidentally, I had a very Mars (the ruler of Aries) weekend. My students on Saturday were focusing on Mars in the signs, and my students on Sunday were focusing on Mars in the Houses! I didn't plan for it to be this way. Students choose the dates on which they meet. So it was pure synchronicity that two groups working on Mars were meeting on the same weekend, which happened to be the New Moon in Aries and the weekend when Mars went into Aries. Wow! I love Astrology!
Well the Moon is now in Taurus and all I can say is thank God! All that general tetchiness at the weekend will hopefully disappear. There is still a long list of planets in Aries, but at least the Moon has moved into a more stable and relaxed sign.
The Moon is now waxing. This period of the lunar month is a period for breathing in. Think of the expression 'stop to take a breath'. This is the time to do it. There is a general misconception that Waxing Moons are for action, but acually this is a time when the body is all about absorption. This means that if you are taking vitamins, you're more likely to absorb things better now. The down side is that you are also more likely to gain weight, because the body needs less food.. So between now and the next Full Moon, plan and take things a bit easier.
There is so much to write about today. Neptune has just dipped its toes into Pisces. This is only until August because after that it will go back into Aquarius until next year. Nevertheless, this is highly significant as being a long way from the Sun, Neptune stays in the same sign for roughly 14 years. Like the other outer planets, Neptune is linked with collective change. This is why this year is so interesting; we have two outer planets changing signs- Uranus and Neptune.
Where Uranus is associated with radical change and revolution, Neptune is associated with idealisation and illusion. Collectively, we tend to idealise matters related to the sign that Neptune is in and then become disillusioned by them. During its stay in Aquarius, we have been totally enthralled by technology and science. Interestingly this coincided with a love affair with alternative beliefs and healing. Of course Scientists and Humanists have become incenssed by this rising popularity in what they see as mumbojumbo. They have become very agressive in their attempts to supress Astrology, Homeopathy, Herbalism etc. They've even taken on religion. Recently in the census they were actually going out of their way to tell people that when it comes to religion, they should not be ticking the box for Christian or Jewish, etc. unless they actually are practicing that religion because they want to prove that religion is no longer relevant in modern society. Whether they have a point or not is debatable. Most of us celebrate Christmas and Easter without feeling the need to go to Church. However, they miss the point that this is a very personal part of a person's mindset and that they have no business preaching to us. They have become the modern day version of the missionaries of old. We're back to Neptune again as Neptune is all about the nebulous world of belief. And during its stay in the rational sign of Aquarius, we've had scientists becoming like overzealous priests of a rational religion.
I think that this will change when Neptune goes into Pisces. Neptune, god of the seas rules Pisces the sign of the Fish. Both are linked with spirituality and mysticism. The talk of a shift of consciousness that has become so prevalent in the lead up to 2012, from a Western Astrological perspective, is all about Neptune's entrance into Pisces. Remember it dips its toe in now but it will be fully in Pisces next year. So I expect the next 14 years to see a rise in interest in all things mystical and all things religious. Whilst Pluto was in Sagittarius we saw an increase in religious fundamentalism. This is because Pluto is about obssession while Sagittarius is also linked with belief and religion. I hope that neptune in Pisces will be more gentle, but beware Neptune is deceptive. People can delude themselves in the realm of Pisces and martyrdom is also linked with this planet. The suicide bomber can also operate in this realm.
Overall though I look forward to this period. Collective ideals are often expressed through the stories we tell on TV and on film. While Neptune was in Aquarius it was all about seeing the average person on TV. Reality TV. Pisces only does fantasy. So I hope that we might see more romance and fantasy on our TVs. At least something that will take us out of ourselves and the bleaker side of existence.
In terms of fashion, Neptune in Aquarius was all about minimalism in the home. In Pisces it wil be about romance, glamour and imagination. Hurray! As a Taurus, this can't happen fast enough!
I think too that charity and volunteering will become fashionable. Once again this could be a shift in consciousness in response to the hardship that we are witnessing in the current economic crisis.
So for all the possible pitfalls I'm looking forward to the changes. I hope you'll enjoy them too.
3/04/11
It's a New Moon today, so this means that the Moon is at its closest to the Sun. This is why we can't see a New Moon. Tradition holds that to fast at the New Moon is a powerful way to detoxify the system and that if you were to do this every month, that it would fortify the body against illness. This is also a good day to make resolutions to break bad habits or make positive changes in your life. Given that the Moon is in Aries, resolutions to be more active might be successful this lunar cycle.
The peak of the New Moon was Opposite Saturn today. This lunar month, there may be a theme of frustration of energy. This can manifest as a desire for action which is frequently restricted. It can manifest in your personal life, especially during the period while Mercury is Retrograde as you find that you can't get as much done as you'd like.
On the world stage, we may think of Lybia. The Coelition's hopes that the rebels would defeat Gadafi are being checked as Gadaffi's forces seem to be winning. But it will be interesting to see what happens when Chiron Squares Lybia's Moon in Gemini later this month. He too may not be immune to the Saturn restrictions.
As I write, the Moon is in an exact Conjunction to Jupiter. When this happened last month, I found that a few people had been planning holidays. My own partner was investigating possible holidays, nothing came of it. But today once again I found that he was looking at different possibilities for a holiday next month. My fingers are firmly crossed!
2/04/11
We're coming up to a New Moon in Aries tomorrow. But what has struck me again today is the number of planets in Aries. Mars has now joined Mercury, Jupiter, Uranus, the Sun, and for today and tomorrow, the Moon in Aries. So the talk of conflict continues, with problems in the Ivory Coast getting worst. In Afghanistan, an attack on a NATO base near Kabul was stopped today, while seven United Nations workers were exectuded in Northern Afghanistan as a protest against American Pastor, Terry Jones' burning of the Koran. And so it continues. It seems that conflict is in the air.
You may find that you too, are feeling tetchy. This might lead to more arguments than usual or just feeling frustrated and out of sorts. This is especially true if you are a Libra, Cancerian or Capricorn. The best thing you can do during this period is be active. Physical activity is a great way to dissipate anger. It acts as a release, especially as we produce endorphins when we excersise.
A more positive manifestation of all this Aries energy is a higher drive to move forward and get things done. If there are projects that you've been putting off, now is the time to do it. This can be a great time if you are an Aries, a Leo or a Sagittarius.
1/04/11
How did it happen that we are already in April? The weather is signalling spring but somehow, April seems a long way into the year! Despite feeling that time has somehow magically moved without my noticing, I am very much enjoying spring.
Yesterday I wrote about Mercury Retrograde, but I didn't really explain the symbolism behind it. The reason why there is a great deal of disruption to transport and communication during these periods, is because Mercury is the planet linked with communication and transportation. Mercury is also linked with daily routines and the general running of everyday affairs. Finally and very importantly, it is linked with the mind. While it is retrograde, you may find that you are rethinking plans and ideas, you change your mind and that affects someone else's plans for the day which means that someone else gets affected. You get the idea. You may wake up and find that you have cold which means cancelling an appointment.
Sometimes, you need to rethink something that you are doing or revisit something that you have put aside. This is a good time to revise or revisit old ideas. You may even find that you are in touch with someone from the past.
All in all with all the changing of minds this is a confusing and often disruptive time. Add to that technnical hitches affecting public transport and communication and it becomes clear why it is that we tend to regard this as a nuisance. Mercury will go direct on the 23rd of April.
The Moon is still in Pisces today, from a biodynamics perspective as the Moon is still waning, it's a good time to feed foliage plants which includes any herbs that might need it.
Speaking of Pisces, I wrote about Venus in Pisces earlier this week and talked about the possibility of hearing about woment being more self-sacrificing or compassionate. Of course Pisces is also the sign we associate with scapegoats, deception and disillusion. The day after writing about Venus in Pisces, I saw on the news the story of Iman al-Obeidi. This Lybian woman raped at a check point in which she was held for days by at least one of Gadaffi's men, was then arrested for having spoken out about what had happened to her. Her mother was bribed and offered all manner of things if she could keep her daughter from speaking out.
This is a sad story with a Piscean flavour as we have a woman who has been penalised for speaking the truth and accused of lying and defamation. Apparently one of her alleged attackers is someone in Gadaffi's family. In this mirky world of lies, the truth is often distorted.
I hope that we will hear stories of a more positive Piscean colouring soon.

Mercury is now officially Retrograde. I say officially, as I'm sure that some of you may have noticed things going wrong in the last few days as Mercury slowed down before becoming stationary and then going Retrograde. It is true that in real terms Mercury is still going in the right direction, but from our perspective here on Earth it is most definately moving backwards. Our perspective also informs our experience, and our experience is that Mercury going Retrograde is definately a nuisance at best. In the last few days, keys have been mislaid, mail delivered to the wrong address, and of course the favourite- communication devices not working properly. So yesterday's interview with Victoria Stillwell will present some interesting technical challenges as I come to edit it. No matter what we did, the sound was just odd!
She, was delightful and if you love your dog, you should definately look at her website and look out for It's Me or The Dog on TV.
I digress, today has been absolutely frustrating as I find the upload speeds for soundfiles that I'm sending to a new student to be snail's pace at best!!! I risk sounding grumpy but at this moment I feel it. I've got lots to do in preparation for the visit of a lovely Piscean friend, (Very apt for a Moon in Pisces) and Mercury's gremlins are slowing me down!
Speaking of the Moon in Pisces, I'm also finding it much more difficult to deal with technical hitches because I'm just not in the mood! In Pisces fashion, I'm finding it hard to concentrate and would much rather be dreaming away in the kitchen as I prepare tonight's dinner.
Before any of that happens though, from a biodynamics perspective, I'll be sowing more herbs and checking the seedlings of my Sweet Cicely, putting them in their own pots. I'll also be watering my house plants and seedlings. Just thinking about this, is soothing! I feel better already!

The Moon is still in Aquarius. Have you been in the mood to do something radical or different in the last couple of days? If so you will have been following Aquarius' natural inclination to experiment. Or perhaps you felt like joining a new group or association.
If you're a fixed sign Taurus, Scorpio, Leo, Aquarius, you may have felt like bucking the trend a bit more strongly than the rest. The Prime Minister certainly seemed to do so in the Commons today. With a Leo Moon, his Moon is Opposite Aquarius today, and he seemed to lose is cool with Ed Balls. Those of us who teach or have experience of doing any kind of public speaking have all been irritated at some point by the person in the audience speaking loudly while we're trying to speak. Rowdy though the House of Commons, usually is, Ministers do tend to listen to speeches except it seems for Ed Balls. David Cameron actually ended up asking him to be quiet and made some unflattering personal remarks which displayed a rare flash of temper.
Mercury goes Retrograde tomorrow- the gremlins will be out of the cupboard until the 23rd of April. More of that tomorrow.

Waning Moons are good for getting things done. With spring upon us, the urge to open doors and windows has a deeper symbolic meaning than just cooling down. With the Moon in Aquarius, it is a good time to air the house. Let the breezes blow through, allowing fresh air for a fresh start in a new season. Once upon a time, people would air mattresses, blankets, rugs, etc. It feels to good to do this. Things smell fresher, especially with the scent of hyacinths in the air.

Venus went into Pisces yesterday. Venus is always in a great mood when she's in this romantic sign. This is a time for glamour, romance and creativity. It's a great time to start dance classes, or join a choir. This is not a time for realism so over the next month, you may find that you are more in the mood for watching films, plays or just settling down to reading a good story. This may be especially strong on days when the Moon is in Pisces.
Pisces is also about forgiveness and self sacrifice so we might be made aware of stories in which women are involved in acts of charity and self sacrifice. With all the stories of war at the moment, this softer tone, will make a welcome change.
If you're a Pisces, you may find that during this period, you are the recipiant of gifts and general appreciation. You may also be in the mood to shop, so watch you don't get carried away. This also applies to Scorpios and Cancerians.
The Moon has gone into Aquarius around noon. This is not a sign conducive to any gardening jobs. So between now and Wednesday night, it's best to just enjoy the garden and allow yourself to dream. Just right for Venus in Pisces!

Looking back at the Moon in Sagittarius, two days ago, I suggested that we might be in the mood to be philosophical. Last night under the last rays of the Moon in Sagittarius, I was watching Frank Skinner on the BBC. The hot topic of conversation was- Do you believe in God? To add to that, one of his guest was a Sagittarius!!!
Today the mood is different though. The Moon is now in Capricorn and gone is the sunshine and the warm weather. Today's mood is more sombre. This is the sign of structure and government and with Uranus in Aries- the planet of rebellion in a tense aspect to the Moon, a mood of rebellion against government cuts prevails with thousands protesting in London.
On a personal note, Capricorn is also the sign we associate with bones, nails and the skin. The structural part of the body and our physical boundary with the outside world. So today is the perfect day for a manicure and a bit of pampering. And if you've missed your chance today- there is always tomorrow as the Moon will be in Capricorn tomorrow too.
25/03/11
Sagittarius is the sign of travel and the traveller. Well today I find myself preparing to welcome two friends from France this weekend. Very appropriate. I'm looking forward to speaking French again- very rusty I think. I hope the experience will blow out the cobwebs.
With spring in the air, your mind may be on summer. Today may be a good day to plan some travel be it weekend breaks or something a little longer.
If travel is not for you at the moment, you might find that you're connecting with someone abroad.
However, you experience this Moon, I hope you enjoy it, for Sagittarius is also about fun!
24/03/11
The Moon is now well established in Sagittarius, time to tend to fruit. My raspberries need a trim and as it's a Waning Moon, today is the day. I'm also feeding my peach tree and pondering over my nectarine. I say pondering as it is steadfastly resisting the charms of the sun, keeping its buds stubbornly closed. It's sister, the peach has blossomed, is in full leaf and I can see the beginnings of fruit forming. I wait impatiently for it to confirm that it's very much alive! Given that it's been treated to a cosy winter indoors, I do hope it's appreciated the hospitality and made it through the winter!
Sagittarius is a philosophical sign so if you find your mind pondering the deeper meaning of life, don't be surprised, today's just the day for it.
23/03/11
Musing over the Moon in Scorpio, it does seem that death has been on the mind. Yesterday, whilst chatting with a friend, she was recalling the death of a beloved dog and worrying about the potential loss of her present best friend. Today, I got a call from a client wanting a reading because she has had two deaths so far this year. Tonight I'm going to a mediumship circle with a Scorpio friend!
On the other hand with the buzz of spring in the air, this Moon in Scorpio may have taken you to lustier thoughts. I hope so, nature seems obsessed with reproduction- it's certainly the more cheerful side of Scorpio and more appropriate for a sunny day! Actually I just realised that by chance, I spent a good part of yesterday afternoon editing my interview with Dr. Pam Spurr for the next edition of Lightways. If you don't know, the link is that Dr. Pam is known as the 'sex doctor'! Need I say more!
As for gardening, there's just a little bit of time to tend to some lemon grass and marjoram seedlings. I love new life!
22/03/11
The Moon has been in Scorpio since last night. So today I looked after my leaf plants. At the allotment, herbs like feverfew, chamomile and hyssop got a haircut. This was necessary as they were looking a bit tatty with last year's dead flower stalks sticking out. A waning Moon is perfect for pruning. It was also a good day to sow coriander, basil, dill and other herbs as well as vegetables like lettuce. Although these plants grow above ground and would benefit from the energy of a Waxing Moon to grow quickly, it's best for their growth to be more moderate or they might bolt. In other words they'll quickly set seed and die. This is not what we want, so it's worth working with them on a Waning Moon to keep them in check and get the most out of them.
Being a water Moon, today was also a good day to water house plants and plants in containers in the garden. We often think these are getting enough water because of rain but if they are close to walls, they often miss out. So keep an eye on them from now to the Autumn.
The Moon will remain in Scorpio until 8:45 tomorrow night. So you're still in time to catch up with Scorpio jobs!
21/03/11
Taking advantage of the last hours of the Moon in Libra, I attended to my flowers. The Moon is now waning so it is a good time to feed and water the soil as the earth is more absorbant during this time of the month. Daffodils, and other spring bulbs could use a potash feed. Any that have finished flowering, should have the dead flowers snipped off. If this isn't done the plant will put its energy into producing seed rather than allowing the energy to go into the bulb. Looking after the plants by feeding and watering until the leaves die down ensures good flowers next year.
Visiting the allotment, I noticed that by cutting only the flowering parts of my purple sprouting broccoli, I have a second crop! Now it's a race with the pigeons! Who will eat it first?
20/03/11
The first day of spring! And it felt like spring too! The Sun will go into Aries tomorrow. So spring will really be in the air! Sun, Mercury, Jupiter and Uranus all in the sign of spring. If you feel a new lease of life, go with it. It's a time to rejuvenate.
Tonight you will be able to see Saturn. Look for the Moon and you will see what looks like a bright star very close to it. That will be Saturn. This conjunction between Saturn and the Moon in Libra means that if you have some serious matters to attend to in your relationship, this is the night to do it. A chat can sort out or prevent many a niggle.
If you have no niggles to sort out, an evening of art or music with a partner or or friend may be just the thing!
19/03/11
The Moon is just about to go into the sign of Libra. It is shining bright as I write. There's been a lot of excitement about this Full Moon, otherwise known as a Super Moon. I'm glad it's over and hope that this means that for the people of Japan, things can start to improve. Especially as Libra is in harmony with Gemini, their Moon.
Having said that as it goes into Libra it will be opposite Uranus in Aries. I'm looking at a TV screen on which David Cameron, a Libra, is talking about the military action in which we're involved, in Lybia. It does feel like we've been here before. Libra is a sign linked with fairness, justice and peace. We are involved in war again to try to bring these ideals to bare. A paradox and very apt for a Moon in Libra opposite Uranus in the Aries, the sign of conflict. Incidentally William Hague our Foreign Secretary is an Aries. How is that for mirrorring the heavens!
On a more personal note, the tension of the Full Moon is still high as it begins to wane. So while the Moon is in Libra, it's the cardinal signs- Cancer, Capricorn, Aries and Libra who may feel the tension most. If this is you, try not to allow things to get to you too badly. Soon the tension will ease and you'll be able to make better decisions. If you do get into conflict, diplomacy and a cool head may be your best allies.
18/03/11
The Moon went into Virgo yesterday evening and today's mood has certainly been Virgoan! I've spent the day organising and catching up with all the things I put off in the week. Virgo is the all about getting things done! And in one morning I did a reading, a radio interview and held a tutorial. If that wasn't enough there was an interview for a future edition of Lightways! I think time for a cup of tea! But no- there's washing up to be done first as I'm out of clean mugs!
On a more serious note, in the build up to the full Moon, mutable signs will need a little TLC. So let's look after the Pisceans, Virgos, Geminis and Sagittarians in our lives. And if you're one of those stressed mutable signs, a little extra sleep might be just the thing you need.
If you're curious about this super moon everyone's talking about, I did an interview about it on Radio Jersey this morning. It's now posted on the Media page. Enjoy!
17/3/11
Watching the news last night, really confirmed what I felt Japan would be going through in the lead up to the full Moon. The Moon being in Leo is in a tense position in relation to Japan's Sun in Taurus. Feelings are running high, something that is not unusual in a lead up to a Full Moon and especially in a fire sign. For the first time there were people voicing their anger. Anger is a natural response to fear. Fear is caused by the uncertainty over the nuclear power stations. The arrival of snow, has also intensified the situation as it hampers rescue and clear up efforts and does little to lift spirits.
The news in the Middle East seems to be getting worst too. Interestingly, every country in the news at the moment has the Moon in the sign of Gemini. I was so staggered when I realised this, that checked three times! Bahrain has the Sun in Leo and the Moon is still in Leo as I write. UK nationals are being asked to leave Bahrain as the conflict intensifies. On the news someone was describing it as genocide. Although there is no evidence that this is indeed what is happenning, this is how people are feeling as the Shia majority feel oppressed by a government that is primarily Sunni. This religious overtone is reflected in the chart as this country's Sun is in the 9th House, which is the House to do with religion and belief.
Once again, with the Full Moon coming up in Virgo, things are only going to become more tense as Bahrain has the Moon in Gemini too.
It is interesting that Saudi Arabia has become involved but supporting Bahrain. It too has the Moon in Gemini and the Sun is in Virgo. It was making threatening noises towards Iran, implying that Iran is in some way stirring up trouble in Bahrain. Iran also has the Moon in Gemini. And if that's not enough, the other country on our minds at the moment is Lybia. You guessed it, Lybia has the Moon in Gemini.
So that got me thinking. And the only thing that could be affecting Gemini at the moment is Chiron. Chiron has recently gone into Pisces. The wounded healer is sitting in the sign linked with the oppressed and minorities. This may well be their time. But given that Pisces is in a tense relationship with Gemini this will not be easy. Bahrain and Lybia are especially vulnerable this Full Moon.
In Mundane Astrology, Astrology looking at national affairs, the Moon represents the public. It will peak at the exact same degree as Japan's Moon in Gemini. This means that this Full Moon will be an especially emotional one for them. I hope that this does not indicate a worstening of their situation, and merely indicates a heighted state of emotion.
On a more personal note, as the Moon is still in Leo until around 9 o'clock tonight, fixed signs need a little extra care. So if you know a Taurus, Aquarius or Scorpio, they may need a little extra understanding. You may find that they are feeling tired or just off colour. Leos may fare better as they Moon is with them. They may be feeling more energised!
16/03/11
Leo is a fire sign so today is a day to focus on fruit, which includes anything that does not involve eating the plant itself but the fruit that it bears. It seems obvious but we're not used to thinking of peas and broadbeans as fruit. So today, is a good day to feed any fruit trees that have blossomed, like my peach tree. It's also a good day to prick out my broad beans, cape gooseberries, cucumbers and aubergines. As the Moon is still waxing, it's also a good day to sow tomato seeds (indoors), peas and beans. It's going to be a busy day.
15/03/11
The Moon has just gone into the sign of Leo. This Moon has a very different feel to that of Cancer. There is more energy and a great desire for play. So this evening you may feel like letting your hair down.
On a more serious note, this is the build up to the Full Moon on the 19th. Leo forms a tense angle with Taurus which is Japan's sign. Countries have charts that are drawn up for the moment when they are created. Japan, being an old country has had several, but this is the most recent which was timed for when they became a sovereign nation again after the last war. The next few days are critical. There is talk of other earthquakes and the ever-present worry about the nuclear power stations. The Moon is showing that the tension is rising. It doesn't necessarily mean that our worst fears will be realised, but it is showing that the situation is critical and that fear is rising too. Keeping in mind that Leo is a fire sign, the emotional octave is high. When the Moon goes into Virgo, it will be in tension with Japan's Moon in Gemini. This means that really we need to get through to the other side of the Full Moon before we see things become calmer.
Leo is a sign very linked with love, so given this very tense lineup over the next few days, let us send our love and prayers to Japan and its people. Healing is very much needed.
14/03/11
Watching the tragedy of Japan unfold, I, like many others, am feeling enormous grief as I witness the almost incomprehensible pain of others. With the Moon in Cancer, emotions are strong and we should gently allow ourselves to grieve. Those of us who have experienced a recent loss, may find this period especially difficult as we find our sense of loss mingling with the empathy we feel for the survivors of this natural disaster. This is especially so, as the planet associated with death- Pluto, is in Capricorn, the sign opposite Cancer. This may well intensify already raw emotions.
So gentleness is needed. Perhaps looking at old photographs or holding loved ones a little closer is the appropriate mood of the day.
13/03/11
The Moon went into Cancer at around 2:30 this afternoon. This is a nurturing sign. After the business of the early part of the day or the extrover communication of a the Moon in Gemini, Cancer invites us to take time out for ourselves. This is the perfect evening for a calm bath, and a comforting dinner with a favourite film or some sensitive music. Enjoy this mood, it will set you up for the week.
12/03/11
Uranus is now in Aries. Uranus is quite far from the Sun so it takes longer to go around the Zodiac. It remains in the same sign for roughly seven years. So what can we expect over this period?
Firstly Uranus is about revolution, progress, change. The sign that it's in indicates an area of life where revolution and progress may be found. Sometimes, it's sudden, other times it's long awaited. Often it's liberating.
To understand more, we need to think about the sign of Aries. Aries was the Greek god of war. In Astrological terms, it's ruled by Mars, the Roman god of war. So this sign is linked with the military and the police. It's also also linked with male energy and men.
When the Moon was in Aries last week, we heard about big changes coming to our police force. It's been in the pipeline for a while but it seems that now is the time for change. On the news, many people were talking about how successive Home Offce Ministers had tried and failed to bring change to the Police Force. Now with Uranus in Aries, change becomes inevitable. The difficulty is, that with Uranus being about revolution and linked with Unions, the Police will be in a mutinous mood. It will be interesting to see how this plays out. But we can expect conflict.
Sadly, Aries is also very much about conflict. The last time that Uranus was in Aries was in the thirties. We saw the rise of Hitler, Mussolini and Franco among others. Germany and Japan were arming themselves and this ultimately, led to the second world war.
There is a great deal of war talk at the moment, over the issue with Lybia. The trouble is that with Jupiter also in Aries, people may be tempted to put their faith in weapons. Jupiter may be enlarging the desire for conflict. Anger that has been long supressed is now finding expression all over the Middle-East. Right now what is needed is cool heads, but these will be in short supply, especially as Mercury is also now in Aries and soon to be joined by the Sun.
The way in which war is conducted may change too. The obvious way in which this might happen is in advances in weaponry. But it's also possible that war may be waged thorough cyberspace. Increasingly we're becoming aware of how economies could be crippled through cyberattacks.
Finally, there may also be a change in attidues among men and about men. It has become fashionable in the last ten years or so to portray men in commecials and in comedy as stupid and incompetent. Last year the role of men in society, was declared to be redundant by some women, when scientists found that they could artificially create sperm. In custody battles, mothers are usually favoured over fathers, leaving many men distraught over the loss of their children.
This has created a lot of resentment amongst some men who finding that their manufacturing jobs are gone, and feeling devalued by society may now lash out. In extreme cases, we may see more men expressing their rage like Raoul Moat, who shot many people last year, when Uranus first dipped its toe into Aries. Men feeling angry and frustrated may become aggressive.
In other ways we may just need to rethink, the position of men in society. The role of fathers is important. In the last few years we've been bemoaning the number of children growing up without fathers. Last summer the BBC produced a series which outlined the importance of fathers in a child's life. It was wonderful as it demonstrated that the relationship with father actually begins in the womb.
Aries is about initiative, and with Uranus in this sign we have the opportunity to take the initiative and make a fresh start. Whether it's rethinking the way in which we deal with conflict, or the way in which men are portrayed in society. Uranus in Aries brings the opportunity for technological innovation. I hope we can seize the moment with the enthusiasm befitting Aries!
11/03/11
We said goodbye to the Moon in Taurus at around 5:30 this morning and welcomed the Moon in Gemini. This is an air sign so it is a flower day. Just like last week when the Moon was in Aquarius, I decided to harvest more purple sprouting broccoli. Well, I was in for a shock. Pigeons apparently thought my crop was very appetising and stripped a considerable number of plants. I harvested the rest and will be enjoying the rest of the crop over the weekend.
Gemini is also a sign of communication, so if you have some letters or calls that you've been putting off, there is no time like the present.
10/03/11
Mercury is now in Aries and it will remain in this sign for the rest of this month and into next month. During this period you might find that communication is more impulsive. Be careful what you say, or you might find you get into arguments a little more easily than usual. This is especially true if you are an Aries, Capricorn, Libra or Cancerian. But if you're a Leo or a Sagittarius, this may be a time in which you are more imaginative and inspired. Whatever your sign, you may just find that you're keen on having the last word.
In the news, the rhetoric of war is picking up pace as a no-fly zone over Lybia is continually discussed. As Uranus is about to enter into Aries too, a more aggressive and even impulsive attitude may develop.
But conflict may also pick up at home. With the unions threatening strikes over changes to pensions in the public sector and the Police in no mood to entertain changes to the way they are paid, the temperature is rising.
However, with the Moon in Taurus today, an altogether more leisurely pace was required. I started the day intending to go to Birmingham for Crufts. A bad night and worst migraine made an early start impossible and so I stayed home. As the day progressed and I started to feel better, a trip to the countryside helped to soothe the nasty head. A late lunch at the Green Parrot in Forest Green was the final balm. I highly recommend it. It is the only place where I know all the meat is grown locally and is free range. So it is the only place where I would treat myself to a delicious meat pie. Hurray for the Moon in Taurus!
9/03/11
The Moon in Taurus today seems to have brought me a nagging desire to eat. The pancake batter left over from yesterday, is calling me loudly from the fridge! If you're feeling similar temptations, beware! We are more likely to put on weight during a waxing Moon. So it takes less food to gain more!
On a happier note, this is an Earth Moon which means that this is a good day to be harvesting my celeriac and attending to my soil. Good soil means good food later in the year. There I am thinking about food again!
If you are a Taurus, Virgo or Capricorn you may find that today and tomorrow are days in which you'd rather be enjoying the more sensual side of life.
More musings on Venus in Aquarius, as listening to the Today Programme on Radio 4, I heard about the serious troubles affecting Ivory Coast. What struck me particularly was hearing that last week women gathered in protest against the present leader. Six were shot, so yesterday thousands gathered to protest again.
This puts me in mind of the first Mother's Day organised in the USA as a day in which women were to come together to raise awareness of the plight of the poor and later to encourage women to rally for peace. Something to think about in our troubled times as we approach Mother's Day once again.
8/03/11
The Moon will remain in Aries until around 10 to 6 this evening. Being a fire sign, this means that today is a day for dealing with fruit. My peach tree is still in blossom although the flowers don't smell as nice as they used to. Gone is the spicy fragrance and instead there is a distinct whiff of cat wee! Definately not so nice. But today is a day to feed it, so that it might provide those peaches to go with the cream.
It's the perfect morning to be on the allotment and happily it's my day off. I'll be clearing ground in preparation for some later spring planting; a good use for this Aries energy.
On a different note, I was greeted on the news this morning by the story of another woman in trouble. This one was charged for the murder of an 86 year old woman! I do hope to be getting some news of women being heroic and leading social change. This would be a much happier version of Venus in Aquarius! Perhaps that's what International Women's Day is for. Celebrating the best of Women collectively. That's very Aquarian!
7/03/11
Watching the news tonight, I was shocked to hear the story of a mother who killed her three children. She was worried that she might lose custody of them after her divorced and decided that if she couldn't have them, no one else would. The news is always full of tragic and shocking stories, but while Venus is in Aquarius, it seems that we're hearing about more women behaving radically than usual.
The Moon is still in Aries. This is the sign most associated with sport and physical activity. Aries is also the sign associated with the Spring Equinox and today was a lovely spring day! So I've had a very appropriate day, having gone for a four and half mile walk in the Surrey countryside. My legs ache but I feel energised! I'm glad it will still be in Aries tomorrow. I could use some more of this energy on the allotment!
6/03/11
The Moon went into Aries early this morning. Tonight it is very close to Jupiter. So if you look to the West just after sunset, you'll just be able to see what looks like a bright star close to the Moon. That will be Jupiter.
So in the sign of Aries, many of us will be feeling restless, impatient and energised. Especially if you're an Aries, a Leo or a Sagittarius. It's a good time to go for a jog, or do something physical. The closeness to Jupiter means that you may even be planning a holiday!
5/03/ 11
The Moon is still in Pisces. Being a water Moon it's a good day to water your house plants. My cucumber seedlings are gasping- so it's Pisces has arrived just in time!
Generally Water Moons are also good for cleaning but beware, when the Moon is waxing you may need more detergent than usual to get out tough stains. If it can wait for the Waxing Moon- that's after the next Full Moon, then just leave it.
Pisces is best left for dreaming anyway!
4/03/11
It's a New Moon in Pisces today. Now the Moon will the waxing as it heads towards it's peak at the full Moon. You might want to change gear now. Take a breath as you will find that emotions might be more volatile as we head for the Full Moon.
3/03/11
Having written yesterday about Venus in Aquarius and that we may be hearing about women behaving in a shocking way, I tuned into the news to hear about Hazel Stewart, who was found guilty of participating in the murder of her husband and her lover's wife. Then this morning, on Channel Five's- The Wright Stuff they were discussing the spate of news stories in which "women are behaving badly". Synchronicity in action.
The Moon went into the gentle sign of Pisces at 16:48 today. Perhaps a romantic evening is what's needed- or at least a bit of fantasy!
2/03/11
Venus has gone into Aquarius today. It will be in this sign until the 27th of March. Over this period, we may see women behaving in a more daring or shocking way. Or they may simply be more involved with protests, etc. Whatever your sex, it's a good time to be networking, joining clubs or groups. This is where we're likely to find our pleasure this month, especially if you're an Air sign (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius).
1/03/11
The Moon went into Aquarius at 5:14 this morning. Not a great day for gardening as the energy of the Moon in Aquarius is the least sympathetic for this purpose. But it is a waning Moon still and being an Air sign, this is a good day for dealing with flowers. So if you have any flower shrubs that need pruning. Now is the time. Also if you've got herbacious perennials that need tidying up. Now is the time.
28/02/11
The sign of Capricorn is not known for being cheerful. I was reminded of this, this morning when opening the RHS magazine the Garden this morning only to learn that there is a new leaf miner spreading through the Midlands which affects the Allium family. Until now, onions, garlic, leeks, etc, have been relatively pest free. Now in addition to carrot fly and all the other garden enemies, here is another! The news just got worst when I read that there is an Asian fruit fly which is also spreading across the country. Until now fruit flies have been harmless, only burrowing into damaged fruit. But this new arrival goes for healthy fruit! As a gardener who works with nature, I'd appreciate it if Mother Nature could also work with us!!!!
Rain has kept me off the allotment today. Being indoors brought the chance to attend to other Capricorn matters. Capricorn is the sign associated with the skin and the bones. So making a cream to attend to a burn, from yesterday, was just the right thing.
27/02/11
Waning Moons mean that the Earth's energy is being pulled downwards, this on an Earth Moon like Capricorn means that it's a good day not only to be dealing with root vegetables but looking after the soil too. This is a good day to attend to your compost heap. It's also a good day to be weeding. If you missed your opportunity to be doing this before the day today, the Moon will stil be in Capricorn tomorrow.
26/02/11
The Moon went into Capricorn last night. Being an earth sign and a waning Moon, this means that it's a good day to sow seeds for vegetable roots. You can get a head start on carrots and parsnips.Sometimes people start them off in pots or seed trays until they are sturdy enough to resist the attention of pigeons who regularly pull the young shoots from the ground. If you started your onions last month or before Christmas for the garlic and haven't planted them in the ground yet, now could be a good time to do so.
The Moon will still be in Capricorn tomorrow so if you didn't get round to these jobs today, because of all the rain, there's still time. We'll keep our fingers crossed for a dryer day!
25/02/11
The Moon is in Sagittarius today. It's a waning Moon. When the Moon is waning, the earth is more absorbant so this is the time to be watering or feeding plants. I'm just about to feed my peach tree which is in full bloom! A beautiful scent! Peach trees are best kept indoors until the weather warms up. Their blossom is early so it needs protection from frost but also the cold wet rain can cause peach leaf curl. Pollination is a challenge so aside from feeding it, I'll be having to use a brush to do a bee's job!
Waning moons also mean that the sap is moving downwards, this is good for pruning as plants are less likely to 'bleed'. Being a fire Moon, this means that it's a good day for pruning fruit bushes or trees that need that done at this time of year.
Waning moons are also good for any kind of surgery. Like the plants, we are likely to bleed less too!
24/02/11
Over the years of working as an Astrologer, I've come to appreciate the importance of the Moon in our daily lives. It does so much more than affect our tides. When I was a teacher I was always aware of the way the atmosphere in the school changed at the Full Moon. Children became more tense, more emotional; and knowing what sign the Moon was in meant that I was able to keep an eye on those who were most likely to be affected.
People working with the emergency services also kow that the time of the Full Moon is more fraught, and a few years ago Sussex Police admitted that they put more police on the streets at the time of the Full Moon.
But is it just people who are affected by the Moon? I've had two beautiful cats in my life. Between them, I have about 18 years of experience of living with pets and can tell you that they too felt the Full Moon. They tended to become more skittish and demanding at the time of the Full Moon.
As a passionate gardener, I became fortunate enough in the late summer of 2009 to get an allotment. Being an Astrologer, I decided to learn how to work with the energies of the Moon in my gardening. I had never done this before and was very excited. I'm still learning but have decided to share my experiences with you in this blog.
With spring approaching, I cannot think of a better time to start this! Join me and be inspired!
